Our ICB Short Courses

Students who complete our ICB Short Courses are looking to:


Small Business Financial Management: ICB National Certificate 

This course allows students to start their career in the business industry. In this course, you will learn how to manage a business and the basics of financial management. 

After completing this course, you will receive an NQF Level 4 qualification, which is equivalent to a Matric Qualification. You only need a Grade 11 Certificate to start this course. 


Bookkeeping: ICB National Certificate 

This course allows students to start their careers as junior bookkeepers. In this course, you will learn the basics of bookkeeping, such as:

  • Bookkeeping to Trial Balance
  • Payroll and Monthly SARS Returns 
  • Computerised Bookkeeping

After completing this course, you will receive an NQF Level 3 qualification, which is equivalent to a Grade 11. You only need a Grade 10 to apply for this course. After completing this course, you can further your studies with our ICB Courses until you get your National Diploma.

No, a Short Course is not a Degree. Short Courses are usually completed in a Short period of time and focus on specific skills related to the industry you are interested in. 

Degree courses can take between 3 and 7 years to complete depending on the type of Degree course you complete, and these courses have different modules that give you the opportunity to learn different skills.

These are the advantages of completing Short Courses:

  • You can complete a Short Course in a short period of time
  • Short Courses are more affordable
  • You can complete a Short Course while being employed full-time
  • You learn specific skills
  • Short Courses allow you to brush up on skills you already have

These are the disadvantages of completing Short Courses:

  • Most Short Courses are non-accredited (We offer ICB Accredited Short Courses)
  • You cannot gain entry into a university with a Short Course (improve your Matric marks with our Matric Upgrade Course or complete our Adult Matric Course if you have not completed your Matric)
  • If you want to work in an industry that requires accredited courses such as medicine or law, then you cannot apply for a Short Course if it is non-accredited.

Yes, you can get a job with a Short Course. The most important thing is that you apply for a job in an industry that accepts Short Courses as qualifications. Certain companies consider Short Courses as valuable skills that can help you complete the duties of the job. 

When you are applying for a job with your Short Course, remember to add the skills that you have learned in the course. This way, your potential employer can see that you have acquired the skills required to complete the job.

Step 2: Get in touch with a Course Expert

Once contact has been made, whether you called us or we called you, you will be in contact with one of our Course Experts. Our Course Experts will have a conversation with you about your interests, skills, abilities, educational background and financial status. This way they can determine which course would suit you best. 

You ultimately, make the final decision, but our Course Experts will guide you through the process. If we do not offer the course that you are interested in, they will recommend a course that does suit your needs.


Step 3: Receive your first batch of study material

As soon as you have made a decision on the course you would like to complete, you will successfully become a Matric College student. This means that you will get your first batch of study material couriers between 5 and 7 working days. 

You can read through the content and decide when you would like to submit your first assignment (submitting your assignments whenever you like only applies to our in-house Short Courses.

An ICB Qualification is a qualification that focuses on business and management courses. You will get this qualification if you complete and pass an ICB Course. ICB offer three programmes namely:

  3. ICB Office Administration

Yes, ICB Qualifications are recognised. In fact, all ICB Courses are recognised nationally and internationally. These courses are also accredited by:

Which means that you can apply for work abroad if you have an ICB Qualification. These courses are also scarce skill qualifications that allow students to become highly employable because employers need people who have these skills.

After completing one ICB Programme you can complete another ICB Programme. For example, if you have completed the ICB Business Management Programme, you can then complete our ICB Financial Management Programme.

ICB has Recognition of Prior Learning, which means that you do not have to complete the same subject if it is provided in another programme. Find below a table that explains how this works.

Yes, a Bookkeeping Certificate is worth it. Here are some of the reasons why it is worth it:

Yes, Bookkeepers are in demand in South Africa. This is because this occupation is required for almost every working industry. Employers are always looking for Bookkeepers and Accountants. This also means that you will be highly employable and earn a decent salary.

The Certified Bookkeeper exam is hard because these courses are of excellent quality. Due to the high quality of these courses, there are also certain standards.

Every year the ICB exams are different to keep up with the high quality. There are also no past exam papers for these courses. Here is how you will be assessed:

Portfolio Of Evidence

The Portfolio of Evidence will test your knowledge of the work that you have learned. This means that if you do not understand or pass the (3) three formative assessments and (2) two tests, then you will have to submit it again.

After you have achieved 50% and above, you can apply for the exams. The PoE has to be submitted on the day you write the final exams.

Final Exams

You will only be allowed to write the final exam once you have passed and submitted all of your assignments. There will be (2) two types of exams that you can choose from:

  • Online Exams
  • Paper-based Exams

Online Exams

The online exams were introduced in the lockdown as an alternative option for students because only a limited amount of students are allowed to write the paper-based exams. These exams will be written from the comfort of your home with an online invigilator app.

Both distance learning students and contact students can apply for these exams. Contact learning students must find out from their college first before applying.

Online exams are between (1:00 pm to 04:30 pm)

Distance learning students can apply through the ICB Student Portal and face-to-face students can apply through their college.


Paper-based Exams

Both distance learning students and face-to-face students can apply for these exams. However, you need to keep in mind that there is limited space. This type of exam means that you will write at a physical venue.

Paper-based exams are between (9:30 am to 12:30 pm)

How ICB Courses Are Assessed

NOTE: 

The ICB venues (paper-based exams) are only able to accommodate a limited number of students due to COVID-19 requirements. To avoid disappointment, book your paper-based exam early.

Also NOTE: 

The ICB reserves the right to cancel or withdraw any exams and / or venues at any point in time. Acceptance into any exam booking by the ICB does not guarantee exam attendance. In the case of cancelled exams, alternative exam dates will be offered.

No, you cannot get a Degree in 6 months. A Degree Course generally takes between (3) three to (7) seven years to complete.
