Accessible To Everyone

Some students live far from universities and colleges. Distance learning allows students to get a tertiary education without having to travel back and forth. At Matric College, students only have to use a computer if they send their assignments via email.

If the student has a smartphone, they can do everything on their phone. Students can apply on WhatsApp and one of our Course Experts will get in contact with them first. After they have been successfully registered, our support team and tutors will assist our students further.

We have a support team that calls our students to find out if they require tutor assistance, and we use WhatsApp and Facebook groups as study groups. We believe that interactive studying is a great way to study. We can always learn from our peers.

Convenience

You can study from the comfort of your home. This means that you do not have to attend any physical classes. You can also set your own schedule, since we do not have scheduled online classes. This means that you can work and study OR study and still attend to your family commitments.

Do Not Need Matric To Further Your Studies

At Matric College, you can study courses without Matric. Our courses are accredited and you can get a qualification that is at NQF level 4. If you still would like to complete your Matric, you can complete our Adult Matric course.

Encourages Independence

Distance learning is all about motivating yourself and setting up your own schedule. This means that you will take responsibility for your own learning.

Reduces Social Anxiety

For some students, interacting with other students or even lecturers can be a challenge. Being a distance learner means that students can learn without having to interact physically with other people.

Save Money

Contact learning means that students will have additional expenses such as transport, accommodation, food as well as new clothes, for some students. Overall, distance learning courses are cheaper than on-campus courses.

You Can Pace Yourself

You will get dates to submit assignments but you will not be required to submit homework. This means that you can schedule your studying time depending on your free time, especially if you are working and have a family.

What Is Online Learning And How Does It Work?

Online learning, also defined as distance learning, is a type of learning done from afar. This means that you will NOT receive any physical/contact classes. At Matric College, we use this type of learning. Our type of distance learning is done using online tools such as:

  • Facebook

    • This is an online platform for students to ask one another questions. We believe that students can learn from one another.

  • Email

    • You can use this tool to get in contact with our Course Experts and support team for any enquiries. You also submit your assignments through email.

  • Tutor contact forms

Frequently Asked Questions

Here are some of the questions that our students ask:

The main purpose of distance learning in South Africa is that it allows everyone to get the opportunity to further their studies. This includes

  • Students who have not completed Matric
If you have not completed your Matric, you can complete our Adult Matric Course. Here are the entry requirements for this course:
    • Be 21 and older. You can apply at 19, but you must be 21 when you write the exam.
    • Have a Grade 9 Certificate or a Grade 9 Equivalent Certificate (ABET Level 4)
    • Understand, read and write in English or Afrikaans
    • Study through distance learning
  • Students who do not have the funds for university
Generally, distance learning courses are way cheaper than universities because the courses are quicker to complete. Students also do not have to spend money on:
    • Accommodation
    • New clothes
    • Study material
    • Transport
  • Students, that live far away from universities and colleges
This is a common occurrence in South Africa. Many students live in areas that are far away from universities and colleges. With distance learning, you can study from anywhere.

This depends on the type of learner you are. Each student has their own learning techniques that work for them. Here are some things you can look at when you consider studying:

Classroom LearningOnline Learning
Attend scheduled physical classes.Attend scheduled online classes or no classes at all. Only submit assignments through online platforms.
Strict time schedules and rules: Write the exams when indicated.Flexibility: Study when you want to write the exams.
Can only study at the college/university itself.Study from anywhere.
Studies cost more than double for physical colleges/universities than distance learning.Affordable learning because courses are quicker to complete.

The five main types of learning are as follows:

  1. Auditory Learning
  2. Kinesthetic Learning
  3. Reading and writing learning
  4. Visual Learning

Auditory Learning

If you learn best when listening to someone, then this is the type of learning that would work best for you. These students prefer listening to visuals or even reading through work. They tend to learn better through debating and discussions online rather than a visual image or words on a page.

Kinaesthetic Learning

If you are a kinaesthetic learner, you generally like learning through physical activities. These types of learning mostly cannot sit in one position for long periods of time. Kinaesthetic learners do best when they can participate in solving problems in a hands-on manner. For example, being physically engaged, such as squeezing a ball while studying or doing craftwork.

Reading And Writing Learning

These types of learners are most comfortable with any written work. They enjoy studying by  reading through work and rephrasing and even simplifying it. These types of learners enjoy reading through textbooks and study guides.

Visual Learning

This type of learning focuses on how students can visualise ideas and relationships. This type of learning can be maps, diagrams, charts and even essays that work well for visual learners. These types of learners learn well when teachers, tutors and lecturers explain through illustrations. When visual learners study, they use colourful cue cards and highlighters etc. They also study through means of real-life examples.

With Matric College! We provide all our courses through distance/online learning. Additionally, we offer a special payment structure that students can afford. These courses include the following:

At Matric College, we have different options for students who have no Matric. If a student is interested in completing their Matric with us, they are only required to have a Grade 9 or equivalent qualification.

However, we do provide alternative qualifications that are equivalent to Matric and act as bridging courses to our ICB courses. For students who prefer courses with shorter durations, we have a list of great short courses that can take a few months up to a year.
