The purpose of Make-Up is to allow people to change their appearance. Most people wear make-up for the following reasons:

  • To cover blemishes
  • To enhance their looks
  • For special occasions
  • To boost their confidence
  • To improve their general appearance

The three (3) uses of Make-Up are as follows:

  1. To improve the appearance of your skin
  2. To change your appearance into another person or object (film industry)
  3. To cover any features you do not like (blemishes, age, nose or mouth etc.)

Both words can be used interchangeably. For example, Makeup is the actual product being used on the face or body. Make-Up is used as a verb, which means that an action takes place.

Egyptian females wore make-up first. This is back in 4000 B.C. They used Make-up to impress the Gods. The more make-up you wore, the more you impressed the Gods. Your spiritual worth was compared to the amount of make-up you wore. The darker your eyes, the more spiritual you were because dark make-up was said to ward off evil spirits. Who said mascara and eyeliner was a bad thing, after all?

The make-up Egyptians applied was called mesdement and this was a combination of copper and lead ore. This was mainly applied around the eyes, as seen in many of their drawings. Some of these makeup applications were believed to be medicinal as well, so it was definitely FDA approved.

Most people wear makeup to improve their appearance, but also to:

  • Cover blemishes
  • Change appearance

This depends on your:

  1. Skin type
  2. Skin tone
  3. Skin conditions you may have
