Distance Learning Courses

Distance Learning Courses are courses that are studied at home. This type of tertiary education was implemented in South Africa to meet the Educational needs of all South Africans.

What Are Distance Learning Courses?

Distance Learning courses are courses that students can learn either online or from home. Distance learning gives students access to study from anywhere they want.

This means that there are no contact lessons to attend. Students and tutors communicate through online mediums such as emails, Zoom and WhatsApp. Distance Learning was first introduced in South Africa in 1946. The University of South Africa (UNISA) was the first distance learning institution to offer distance education at the time. Today, South Africa has many different institutions that offer distance learning with different courses.

Matric College is one of these distance learning institutions in South Africa. We offer a variety of courses that you can choose from. Here is a list of the courses we offer by distance learning:

Are Distance Learning Courses Accredited?

Yes, distance learning courses are accredited. They are accredited by professional bodies namely, the Institute of Certified Bookkeeper (ICB), Quality Council of Trades and Occupations (QCTO) and Umalusi. At Matric College, we offer both Accredited Courses and Short Courses (Non-Accredited Courses):

  • Short Courses (Non-Accredited Courses)
  • Accredited Courses

Short Courses

Short Courses (Non-Accredited Courses) are courses that are not registered with a professional body. Although they are not registered, they offer several benefits. They are short and skills-based. If you want to complete a course quickly you can consider the short courses. They equip you with skills in a specific field. Having these skills will allow you to stand out as a candidate when applying for work or a promotion.

Studying a short course through distance learning is more convenient because you can study from anywhere you want. You do not have to interrupt your schedule to become a student. You get to set your study schedule to the time that suits you best.

Distance Learning VS Contact Learning

Contact Learning is a type of learning where students study physically in class. Lecturers assist students in class or through email during work hours.

Distance Learning VS Contact Learning

What Are The Benefits Of Studying Through Distance Learning?

There are several benefits when you study through distance learning. Here is a list of reasons why you should study through distance learning:

  • Affordable
  • COVID-19 Safe
  • Flexible

  • Study Without Matric
  • Network Opportunities

Affordable

You save money when you study through distance learning because you do not spend on any expenses such as food or daily transport. At Matric College, your course material is included in your course fees meaning you do not have to buy your textbooks.

COVID-19 Safe

Flexible

Distance learning is available to anyone who wishes to study. This also includes employees, international students and parents. You can set your study schedule to the time that suits you best.

Study At Own Pace

You study at the pace you want. If you need twice as much time when writing your assignments and other tasks, you can complete them at your own pace. Tutors are available when you need assistance.

Study Without Matric

You can study at Matric College without Matric. There are various courses you can apply for that only need you to be at least 16 years old, able to read, write and understand English to study.

Which Institution Offers Distance Learning In South Africa?

Matric College offers distance learning in South Africa. Distance learning means that you study from home. There are no contact lessons to attend. You communicate with tutors through online mediums such as emails, Zoom and WhatsApp. We offer all our courses through distance learning. These are the ICB courses, NATED courses, Matric courses, Matric Equivalent courses and Study Without Matric Courses. Distance learning makes learning easy in different ways.

How Can I Pass Distance Learning Courses?

There are different methods you can use to pass your course through distance learning. Here is a list of things you can do to pass your course through distance learning:

  • Setting
  • Study
  • Past Papers
  • Discussions
  • Notes
  • Assessment

Setting

Your setting is the most important when it comes to studying through distance learning. Find a place that is comfortable for you. You can paste charts, papers and sticky notes around your study area to motivate you to study.

Study

You have a better chance of passing if you take the time to study and understand your coursework. Tutors are available to assist if you need clarity on what you are studying.

Past Papers

Use past papers to study. Some questions in exam papers are usually repeated year after year. The question may come back the same or in a different angle but require the same answer. Ask your tutors for help if you want to confirm the answer.

Discussions

Take part in group discussions. You will learn different ideas and answers from other students. This is also a chance to ask questions and get clarity.

Notes

Make notes of everything you learn. This is whether you received an answer in a group discussion or from a tutor. Notes will help you study better because you can always make changes if new information comes up.

Assessment

Write all your assessments. These include tests, assignments and other tasks you are given. Assessments add up to your exam mark. You have a higher chance of passing if you write all your assessments and study well for your exam.
