What Will I Learn?
For each subject you complete, you will learn a range of skills. These skills will equip you to work with different types of skincare products, as well as how to treat and enhance your client’s facial skincare. Here is what you will learn in each subject:
Anatomy and Physiology: In this subject, you will learn about the biology of skin. This means that you will gain the skills and knowledge on how to treat and maintain skin conditions as this subject focuses on skin tissue, bone as well as the nervous system.
Facial Skincare Theory: This subject explores the scientific side of the skin. You will learn about which treatments would work best for different types of skin.
Facial Skincare Technique: This subject is extremely important because you will learn about the different techniques you can use on different skin types, tones and conditions.
Introduction to Business English: In this subject, you will learn more about the business side of the beauty industry. You will learn how to communicate professionally. This can be verbal or non-verbal communication. You will also learn how to write business letters, proposals etc.
Professional Salon Skills: If you are looking at opening your own salon, then this subject will assist you in becoming a professional salon owner. In this subject, you will learn how to present yourself professionally, to clients and potential business partners.
NOTE:
We offer all of our Short Courses in partnership with Skills Academy. That means that each Short Course is delivered through Skills Academy. Matric College and Skills Academy are partner Colleges.Facial Skincare Assessments
You will receive at least (3) three assignments for each subject. You have to pass each assignment to get your next subject to complete. Each subject requires you to pass and complete 3 assignments. You have to pass with 50% and more.
Assignments
You have to complete (3) three assignments for each subject. Each subject should be passed with at least 50% or more. There are no due dates for your assignments. This means that you can complete and submit your assignments whenever you are ready, as long as it is within your duration date.
What does this mean? For example, if you registered for the course on the first (1st) of November 2022 then you should submit all of your assignments by the first (1st) of January 2023. This is 15 months in total, which is the duration of this course.
Exams
There are no exams for this course. You will only submit your assignments through email. After you have passed all the assignments with 50% and more, you will receive the Proficiency Certificate in Facial Skincare by us.

Aestheticians in South Africa generally enhance and “treat” clients skin. These are not medical professionals, and they focus more on the beauty aspect of skincare and the treatments that are given are usually, waxing, exfoloiating and giving clients tips on face washes and face scrubs.
A Dermatology Course assists students in caring and treating clients skin. These courses are generally completed after a student completes their Medical Degree. The process takes about 12 years.
A “Skin Doctor” can be called a Dermatologist, but can also be referred to as a:

You can become a Skin Specialist by following these steps:
Step 1: Pass Matric With A Bachelor’s Degree Certificate
To gain entry into a medical course, you have to pass Matric with a Bachelor’s Matric Pass. You also need to pass certain subjects, which include:
- Mathematics
- English
- Life Sciences
- Physical Sciences
Step 2: Apply For A Bachelor’s Degree In Medicine
This is a four-year programme that you need to complete. Each university has its own entry requirements. Always research the university before applying.
If you do not meet the entry requirements because of your Matric Pass Level, then you should consider completing our Matric Upgrade Course. This course allows students to improve their marks and change their subjects. You can apply for our Matric Upgrade Course if you meet these entry requirements:
- Understand, read and write English
- Study through distance learning

Step 3: Apply For A Medical Degree
This is another four year programme that you have to complete. You have to complete your Bachelor’s Degree in Medicine before approaching the four-year Medical Degree programme.
Step 4: Apply For Residency
Residency includes practical training. This will be another four years, after which you will be a qualified skin specialist.
Step 5: Find Employment As A Dermatologist
This step could be one of the easiest steps, the Medical Centre where you are completing your residency might offer you a permanent position. Alternatively, you can apply for various positions that are available.

A Level 4 in Beauty Therapy is a Diploma Course offered in South Africa. This course is internationally recognised, and most Beauty professionals complete this course to start their own business or to apply for a position at a salon. The entry requirements for this course are:
- Grade 12
- You must have completed Life Sciences in High School
If you are interested in this course, but you do not meet the requirements, you can complete one of our courses:
- Adult Matric Course
- This course is for students who would like to complete Matric. You can apply with a Grade 9 or ABET Level 4 Certificate. You have to be 21 and older to complete the course.
- Matric Upgrade Course
- This course is for students who have completed Matric but do not have Life Science as a subject or did not pass Matric. You can complete this course to improve your mark. You only need your failed or passed Matric Certificate to apply.
- Complete one of our Beauty Courses without Matric
- You can complete this course at the age of 16 or older. You have to understand, read and write English.
This is a type of course that is completed in the beauty industry. This is most commonly found in the UK and focuses on facial electronics. In South Africa, we also have an ITEC Level 3 Qualification that is internationally recognised. This programme is generally completed by beauty experts.
Although this is the most common qualification to have obtained, you could also complete one of our Facial Skincare Courses. We offer at least 4 of the subjects that are offered in the ITEC Qualification. These subjects are:
