What To Do Whilst Waiting for Your Matric Results

As you work for your Matric results there will be a lot of anxiety. Do not despair, with whatever result that you will get you will always have something to do

The period that you will be waiting for your Matric results is full of anxiety. This is because your mind will be occupied with how you will have fared in your exams. This is normal as you will be going into the next phase of your life. 

However, consider the following engaging activities that can occupy you while you wait for the results of your exams:

Get An Understanding Of Your Pass Levels

Get to know the Matric Pass Levels. Knowledge of Matric Pass Level can give you an idea of what you can study with the pass level you will achieve. It also gives you the expected pass levels for that course that you are aiming for.  Here are the Matric Pass Levels:

  1. Bachelor’s Pass Level
  2. Diploma Pass Level
  3. Higher Certificate Pass Level
  4. National School Certificate / Senior Certificate Pass Level

Bachelor's Pass Level

The minimum requirements to get a Bachelor’s Degree Pass is as follows:

Diploma Pass Level

The minimum requirements to get this certificate is as follows:

Higher Certificate Pass Level

A Higher Certificate Pass allows students to enrol at a college or distance learning institution.

The minimum requirements to get this certificate is as follows:

National School Certificate / Senior Certificate Pass Level

The minimum requirements to get this certificate are as follows:

  • Pass at least (3) three subjects with 40%. One of these subjects should be an official Home Language.
  • Pass at least (2) two subjects with 30%. One of these subjects should be a First Additional Language or Home Language. 40% in two other subjects for the National Senior Certificate
  • You are allowed to fail 1 subject. The minimum percentage you can get for this subject is 20%. 30% in three other subjects for the National Senior Certificate. You can fail one subject

Consider The Options You Have

Bachelor’s Degree

With a Bachelor’s Degree Pass, you can study for a Bachelor’s Degree. Find out the exact requirements for the degree that you want to study. In some cases, you will need to have a specific subject/s. 

In other cases, you will need to have a minimum of a certain mark in a particular subject. This is the period that t you can use to do the research

You can also consider a learnership as you wait for your Matric results.  A learnership is when you learn on the job. You will need to find out the requirement of the learnership that you are interested in. The good thing about a learnership is:

  • You will be certified after the learnership
  • You will get paid during the learnership
  • You may be offered full-time employment after the learnership

Get A Part-Time Job

As you wait for your Matric results, you can get yourself a job. It could be in your favour if you get a job in the field that you have an eye for. If you plan to study through distance learning, and you study your preferred course, it will give you a chance to practice what you are studying. 

If you study further by distance learning, there will be no need for you to quit your job. At the same time, if you work you can fund your studies.     

Work On Your Skills

As you wait for your Matric results, you can use that time to work on your skills. When we talk of skills, we talk of things like:
