Business Management: NATED N6 National Certificate Assessments

All of the National Accredited Technical Education Diploma (NATED) Programmes Assessments include:
  1. Assignments
  2. Exams
You have to complete the assignments and exams for each subject. In order to qualify for the exams, you must pass your assignments with a 40% pass.

Assignments

You will receive 3 Assignments that you have to complete before you gain entry into the exam. This means that you have to meet an average of 40% to qualify for the final exam.

NOTE: You have to complete 3 assignments for each subject that you study. This gives you three opportunities to get closer to qualifying for the final exam.

Exams

You have two opportunities to register for the exam. Here are the dates for the exam registration:

  • February: In this month you get the opportunity to register for the exam
  • If you register this time of the year, you will write the exam in May OR June
  • August: In this month you get the opportunity to register for the exam
  • If you register this time of the year, you will write the exam in October OR November

*To pass the exams your final mark MUST be 50% and more

No, an N6 Certificate is not equivalent to a Diploma. An N6 Certificate is on an NQF Level 5 and a Diploma is on an NQF Level 6. The table below explains the different NQF Levels for both qualifications:

An N6 in Business Management can either be a National Certificate (NATED) course OR a National Diploma (NATED) course. This depends on whether you have completed the 18 months of work experience.

If you have not completed the 18 months of work experience then you will only receive the N6 National Certificate in Business Management. If you have completed 18 months of work experience then you will receive the N6 National Diploma in Business Management.

The N6 Business Management is the last certificate course in the NATED Business Management Programme. It enables students to use the knowledge they have learned to start their own business or work in the following sectors:

  • Retail
  • The wholesale market OR
  • Any management environment

You can determine the differences by looking at the following questions:

  1. What is written on the certificate you received?
  2. How was the certificate awarded?
  3. Have you completed 18 months of work experience?
If on your certificate it indicates that it is a Certificate of Achievement then it is an N6 National Certificate. If on your certificate it indicates that it is a National N Diploma, then it is an N6 National Diploma. Here is what the different qualifications will look like:

If you complete your Business Management: NATED N6 National Certificate qualification at Matric College, we will send you the Certificate of Achievement but if you complete the Business Management: NATED N6 National Diploma with us, the Department of Higher Education and Training will send you your National N Diploma.

Have You Completed 18 Months Of Work Experience?

If you completed the work experience, recorded the information in your logbook that we will provide, and submitted it to us, then the Department of Higher Education and Training will award you your N6 National Diploma.

If you have not completed the work experience, then you will be awarded a Certificate of Achievement, which is an N6 National Certificate.

The main difference between these two qualifications is that the N6 National Diploma is a higher level of qualification than the N6 National Certificate. Here are other differences between these two qualifications:

National Accredited Technical Education Diploma (NATED courses) is designed by the Department of Higher Education and Training. Each course builds on the next course. This means that you have to first complete the N4 National Certificate course to complete the next course, which is the N5 National Certificate course. All National Qualifications (NATED Courses) consist of two components:

  1. Theory
  2. Practical

It takes between 18-36 months for each component to be completed. This means that you must complete 18 months of theory and 18 months of work experience for the full course (N4, N5, and N6 altogether).

Theory

This component of National Qualifications (NATED Courses) consists of various modules that students must complete. These modules give students the knowledge of how to approach the practical component of the course.

Practical

NOTE: You will receive a logbook from Matric College, which will have course-specific duties. These duties must be signed off by a Manager.

Once the 18 months of work experience has been completed you will send your logbook to Matric College, which will, in turn, submit it to the Department of Higher Education and Training (DHET) for approval.

Once it has been approved, the (DHET) will send you your National Diploma.


The practical component of this course consists of 18 months of work training. There are 3 ways you can approach your 18 months of work experience. Here is how you can complete your work experience:

  • 6 months of theory and then 6 months of work experience
  • 12 months of theory and then 12 months of work experience
  • 18 months of theory and then 18 months of work experience

NOTE: You can complete your theory alongside your work experience. This means that you can complete your course faster.
