There are three open book assignments that can be completed at home, as well as a final exam set by the Department of Higher Education and Training (DHET).
There are two exam opportunities.
May/June and October/November
February – May/June exam
August – October/November exam
Note: The course fees include all books as well as exam fees. But only one exam session per subject. If you fail an exam, you will have to pay extra to rewrite that exam.

How to go from your N5 Certificate to your N6 Diploma
Once you have achieved your N5 National Diploma, you can work towards getting your N6 National Diploma.
Here are the necessary steps that you will have to follow to achieve an N6 National Diploma in Educare:
- Step 1: Complete your N5 Educare certificate.
- Step 2: Apply for the N6 Educare National Certificate course.
- Step 3: Complete your N6 National Certificate.
- Step 4: Get 18 months of industry-related work experience in the Educare field.
- Step 5: Note all 18-months of your work experience in a logbook.
- Step 6: Once completed, send the logbook to the Department of Higher Education and Training for Approval.
- Step 7: When this has been approved, you qualify for an N6 National Diploma.
