Second Chance Matric Programme

The Second Chance Matric Programme is for students who have recently completed their Matric at school and need to improve their marks, or that need to pass Matric. This allows students to complete their Matric for a second time. Students can apply at:

  • The High School that they previously attended
  • A new High School
  • At the Department of Basic Education
  • A distance learning college like Matric College

Who Qualifies For The Matric Second Chance Programme?

You qualify for the Matric Second Chance Programme if:

  • You are younger than 21 years
  • You have recently completed your Matric
  • You have failed your Matric
  • You need to improve your Matric marks to gain university admission
  • You could not attend the final exam sitting because:

    • You were ill and you have proof 
    • You had a death in the family, and you have proof

Repeat Your Matric In High School

You can repeat your Matric in High School to do your Matric for a second time. This only applies to students who are younger than 21 years old. If you are older than 21 years old and could not complete your Matric in High School, you can complete it as an adult. We offer an Adult Matric Course for these types of students. 

Here is what you need to apply for the Adult Matric Course:

How Many Times Can You Repeat Matric?

You can only repeat Matric until you reach the age of 21. After you turn 21, you have to complete the Adult Matric Course. The only time you can complete Matric over the age of 21 is if you are already in the schooling system. For example, you turn 21 in Grade 11 and pass to the next grade, which is Grade 12.

Yes, you can do Matric in (3) three months. This is only if you already have completed Matric. Students that are looking to improve their Matric results can complete it in (3) three months. Apply at the beginning of the year and write the final exam in May or June.

We however recommend that you complete any course within 12 months. This will allow you to understand the subject a lot more. The fastest option is not always the best option.

It is a Matric Qualification that is awarded by Umalusi. This certificate is “amended” because amendments have been made to your certificate. For Example, if you previously completed Physics, you will now complete Life Sciences.

Yes, you can do your Matric online in South Africa. Matric College offers distance learning courses that students can do online. This means that you will use online tools to study. Here are the (3) three online Matric Courses that we offer:

If you want to gain specific skills and obtain a qualification equivalent to Matric, then you should complete these courses. You must meet the following admission requirements:

Small Business Financial Management: ICB National Certificate

  • Be 16 or older 
  • Have a Grade 11 Certificate
  • Apply with our ICB Bridging Course if you only have a Grade 10 Certificate

Bookkeeping: ICB FET Certificate

If you want to rewrite some subjects, you will need to register at the DBE. AS well as register for a college of your choice. Make sure that you select the right institution that can help you through the duration of your studies. At Matric College, you can receive benefits such as:
