  • Going through past papers
  • By taking part in group discussions
  • Being completely dedicated to your studies
  • Motivating yourself
  • Taking ownership of your studies

Going Through Past Papers

Jan Badenhorst, principal of Matric College, ultimate study tip is to go through past papers. He believes that past papers give you a chance to understand what type of questions might be in the examination.

He also believes that the chances of the questions appearing in the exam again are high. Study by yourself or include your peers and have discussions about the past papers.

Taking Part In Group Discussions

Students can help one another when they go through past papers. This helps students learn from one another. It also promotes confidence and networking.

Dedicating Yourself To Your Studies

You should dedicate yourself to your studies. The future of your career depends on you. This means that you should be committed to not falling into the trap of procrastination or doubting your abilities. Be proud of your strengths and work on your weaknesses.

Motivating Yourself

You are your main source of motivation, always own up to your mistakes. Remember that you will be studying from home, which should motivate you to study independently and to be self-disciplined.

Take Ownership Of Your Studies

If you make mistakes or fall behind in your studies, you should take ownership. To avoid failing, set up a study schedule and stick to it.

APS stands for Admissions Point Score. Universities use this point system to determine whether a student can gain admission to the university. Some universities have separate APS Scores:

  • An APS Score for the university itself
  • An APS Score for a particular Score

This is the reason why some universities allow students to choose up to 3 study options when they apply for a study programme.

Here is how your APS Score is calculated:

You can only calculate your APS Score once you have received your final Matric marks. You can look at the codes of the percentages that you have received for each subject. These codes should then be calculated together and this will give you a total APS Score. Here is a table that explains the different percentages with their codes:

Percentage ReceivedAPS Score
80%  – 100%7
70% – 79%6
60% – 69%5
50% – 59%4
40% – 49%3
30% – 39%2
0% – 29%1

Here is an example of a student’s APS Score and how it is calculated:

Percentage ReceivedAPS Score
80 %7
70 %6
60 %5
50 %4
88 %7
30 %2
