People Also Ask

While we do not have obligatory on-campus interactions due to our distance learning model, our digital platforms provide ample opportunities for interaction and engagement among learners, making sure you’re never learning alone.

The best way to pass any grade is by revising your coursework daily. What you could do is create a schedule by breaking down the subject topics to be smaller and more manageable time slots. Sticking to a routine with enough breaks will be a good idea to stay up-to-date and focused.

You can use your final Grade 11 results to apply for tertiary education, however, you will still need your final Grade 12 results to be able to finalise your spot in the chosen programme. At Matric College you can complete different courses with just Grade 11:

A student is required to take seven subjects in grade 10, four compulsory subjects and three elective subjects. These subjects you will cover until Grade 12, where you will have to sit for the Matric exams.

The National Senior Certificate (NSC) is awarded to students who complete Grade 12 through the traditional school system. The Amended Senior Certificate (ASC) is designed for adult learners who are 21 years or older and wish to complete their matric outside the conventional school environment.

N4 is a qualification obtained through TVET colleges and is considered equivalent to Grade 12 in terms of the National Qualifications Framework (NQF Level 4). However, it is more vocationally oriented and may not meet the requirements for university admission.

Yes, you can write matric without completing Grade 11 — but only in specific cases. If you’re 21 years or older, you can register for the Amended Senior Certificate (Adult Matric). This programme lets you work toward your matric certificate without needing to go through Grade 11 first.

Here’s what you need:

  • You must be 21 or older when writing the exams.
  • You need to have Grade 9 or equivalent (like an ABET Level 4 certificate).
  • You can choose your own subjects and study from home through distance learning.

This option is great for adults who want a second chance at finishing school and opening doors to better job or study opportunities.

In Grades 10, 11, and 12, there are seven subjects in total that you need to take. Out of these, four are compulsory subjects:

  • Home Language
  • First Additional Language
  • Mathematics or Mathematical Literacy
  • Life Orientation

The other three subjects are electives that you can choose based on your interests, strengths, and future study or career goals. These may include subjects like Business Studies, History, Physical Science, or Life Sciences. Choosing wisely is important, as your elective subjects can affect your eligibility for certain university or college programmes.

Yes, you absolutely can. At Matric College, you can complete your matric through online distance learning, which means you don’t need to attend a traditional school. Instead, you’ll study from home at your own pace, with access to study materials, tutors, and ongoing support.

This option is ideal for adults who want to balance their studies with work, family, or personal responsibilities. Once you’ve prepared through your online studies, you’ll write your matric exams at an exam centre set by the Department of Basic Education.

Yes, you can. Studying online is widely recognized by employers as long as the institution is accredited. What matters is the qualification you earn, not whether you studied in a classroom or at home. In fact, online study shows employers that you are disciplined, motivated, and able to manage your own time. Qualities that are highly valued in the workplace.

No, you cannot complete a full matric in just 3 months. A matric qualification requires at least one year of study because of the number of subjects and exams involved. However, if you already have some subjects passed, you may be able to fast-track your studies by rewriting or upgrading fewer subjects, which can shorten the time. Distance learning also allows you to move faster if you dedicate extra study hours each week.

Yes, you can still find work without Grade 12, but your options will be limited. Most formal jobs in South Africa require at least a matric certificate. Without it, you may only qualify for entry-level or temporary jobs. To improve your chances of getting stable, well-paid work, completing your Grade 12, either through Adult Matric or a Matric Equivalent course , is the best option.
