Matric advice for students who failed

Failing Matric is not the end of your career. There are many options you can take to either get your Matric or study further without it. Below is a list of what you can do after failing Matric: 

Speak To Someone

Failing Matric can cause anxiety and stress. Make sure that you speak to someone close to you regarding how you feel. This will help you relieve the pain you may be feeling. Speaking about your worries helps you feel better. 

Below is a list of things you can do to relieve stress and anxiety after failing an exam: 

  • Get enough sleep 
  • Exercise your body 
  • Take a walk 
  • Play games 
  • Visit a friend
  • Watch a movie 
  • Drink water and eat healthier

Study Without Matric

Failing Matric should not stop you from following your dream career. At Matric College, you can study without Matric. These are the courses you can enrol for without Matric: 

Rewrite Matric Course

You can study the Rewrite Matric Course and rewrite your Matric final examination. This will be a good chance for you to study harder. You have written the final exam before, which is an advantage because you know how to prepare for it. 

When you have completed the Rewrite Matric Course, you will gain a Matric Certificate, which you can use to study further at college or university.

ICB Courses

You can study the ICB Courses to gain knowledge and skills that are in demand in South Africa. When you have these qualities, you are a candidate that employers look for. This raises your opportunities of getting employed

ICB Courses are good if you want to open a business. They provide you with business skills and knowledge. Your business will have a better chance of being successful because you will know how to attract investors and customers. 

These are the ICB Courses you can enrol for: 

Short Courses

Adult Matric Course

If you failed your Matric a long time ago, you can study the Adult Matric Course. You must be 21 or older to study. In this course, you will obtain knowledge that prepares you for university. When you have completed the Adult Matric Course, you will be awarded a Matric Certificate

The Matric Certificate you earn can be used to further your education at a college or university.

Remark, Recheck or View Paper

You can apply for the remark, recheck or view the paper through the Department of Basic Education. Your paper will be marked, checked or viewed. When your exam paper goes through a remark, it is marked by an examiner who checks every question to ensure that you receive the correct grades. 

When your exam paper goes through the recheck process, it is evaluated by an examiner. They check to see if your paper was marked correctly and if the total mark is accurate. 

If you want to apply for the view paper process, your paper must first go through the recheck or remark process. You will then be able to view your paper and see if it was marked or checked correctly. These methods can help you gain marks. 

Please note that the remark, recheck and view paper do not change your marks drastically. If you want to get better marks, you should apply for a rewrite.

Second Chance Programme

You can apply for the Second Chance Programme through the Department of Basic Education offices or at school. You will have to prepare yourself to write this exam. You can use past exam papers to help you study. 

When you have passed the Second Chance Programme, you are awarded a Matric Certificate. You can use this to study at a college, or university or find work.

Study Matric Once Again

It is never too late to repeat your Matric year. You will have a better chance of passing this time because you know what to expect. From the first assessment you receive in class, you will ensure that you get high marks. 

To help you pass Matric this time, you can use these tips: 

  • Study to understand 
  • Ask questions when you feel stuck 
  • Study with other hard-working students 
  • Practise with past exam papers

Can You Pass Matric If You Fail 2 Subjects?

No, you can not pass Matric if you fail two objects. You can only fail one subject and pass Matric. However, this is not something you should do. Focus on all your subjects and get the best marks possible. Good marks will help you get into university. 

Can You Get Matric Certificate Even If You Failed?

Yes, you are awarded a Matric Certificate even if you fail Matric. This way, you can easily identify the subjects which you failed or passed. You can use your Matric Certificate to study for Matric Courses at Matric College. These courses will award you with a Matric Qualification. These are:
