- You passed Grade 9 and have proof of your report OR
- You completed a Grade 9 Equivalent course (i.e. an ABET Certificate) that included two official language subjects
- You are 21 or older when you write your exams

- You are able to study via distance learning

Is Adult Matric The Same As Normal Matric?
Adult Matric and Traditional Matric are the same. The only difference is that Adult Matric is studied through a college by someone who is 21 years or older, while Traditional Matric is studied in high school by someone who is younger than 21.
Students who study the Adult Matric and those that study the Traditional Matric earn the same Qualification, which is a Matric Certificate from Umalusi. The terms may be different because the Adult Matric Certificate is known as the Senior Certificate (Amended) while the Traditional Matric Certificate is known as the National Senior Certificate, but the certificates are the same.
How Do I Apply For Adult Matric?

How Long Does An Adult Matric Course Take?

- Divide the subjects and study two each for three years

How Do I Pass Adult Matric?
You pass Adult Matric by obtaining the following pass levels. However, we do recommend that you aim for a Bachelor’s Degree pass so that you can increase your chances of getting into university. Keep in mind that your acceptance into university is based on whether you meet the requirements of both the university and the course you applied for. Here are the pass levels:
Bachelor’s Degree Pass
You must obtain a minimum of:
- 40% in your home language
- 50% in 4 subjects
- 30% in 2 other subjects
Diploma Pass
You must obtain a minimum of:
- 40% in your home language
- 40% in 4 subjects
- 30% in 2 other subjects
Higher Certificate Pass
You must obtain a minimum of:
- 40% in your home language
- 40% in 2 subjects
- 30% in 3 other subjects
Senior Certificate (Amended) Pass
You must obtain a minimum of:
- 40% in your home language
- 40% in 2 other subjects
- 20% in other subjects
You can also pass your Matric by following these simple tips:
