Yes, you can do a Short Course at a university. Different universities offer Short Courses. However, these courses are not accredited just like all other Short Courses.
Do Short Courses Count As A Qualification?
Yes, Short courses count as a qualification. When you complete studying these courses, you are awarded a Certificate Qualification. This serves as proof that you have acquired the skills you have professionally.
Employers look at the certificate and value you for the education you received. Although the certificate is not accredited, it still qualifies as a qualification.
Is A Short Course A Degree?
No, a Short Course is not a Degree Qualification but a Certificate Qualification. You can study with or without Matric. For a Degree Qualification, you must have a Matric Certificate with a Bachelor’s Degree pass to study. Your acceptance into the course depends on whether you meet the requirements set by the university where you are applying. If you want to have a Matric Certificate, you can study the Adult Matric course at Matric College. When you have completed the course, you will be awarded a Matric Certificate. This certificate is exactly the same as the one you receive in high school. The only difference is that you are getting it as an adult at a college. Here are the requirements for the Adult Matric Course:
- You must have at least a Grade 9 or equivalent qualification,
- i.e.: Adult Basic Education and Training (ABET) Level 4
- You have an incomplete Matric
- You must be able to read, write and understand English or Afrikaans
- You must be 21 years or older to write the exams
- You may sign up for the Adult Matric course at the age of 19 years old, but you will only be able to write the Adult Matric exam once you are over 21
