If you have failed Matric, your career goals have not been cut short. Failing Matric is not the end of the road. You have many options to pursue with or without a Matric Certificate. You can build a successful career without a Matric Qualification. You can do it through the following:

What Does It Mean To Fail Matric?

Failing Matric means that you could not meet the minimum requirements of the Matric pass levels. There are four different matric pass levels. If you obtain these levels, you pass your Matric. These are the pass levels you can get to pass Matric:

Bachelor’s Degree Pass Level

  • A minimum of 40% in your home language 
  • A minimum of 50% in four subjects 
  • A minimum of 30% in two other subjects

Diploma Pass Level

  • A minimum of 40% in your home language 
  • A minimum of 40% in four subjects 
  • A minimum of 30% in two other subjects

Higher Certificate Pass Level

  • A minimum of 40% in your home language 
  • A minimum of 40% in two subjects 
  • A minimum of 30% in four other subjec

National Senior Certificate Pass Level

  • A minimum of 40% in your home language 
  • A minimum of 30% in two other subjects 
  • A minimum of 30% in three subjects 
  • You can fail one subject 

How Do You Deal With Matric Failure?

You deal with Matric failure through the following: 

  • Accept that you failed your Matric 
  • Find out what made you fail 
  • Remind yourself that you did your best 
  • Speak to someone about how failing makes you feel 
  • Tell other Matric students to not repeat your mistakes 
  • Figure out your next career step

What Happens If You Failed Matric?

You have options to take if you failed Matric. These options are: 

Remark, Recheck Or View Paper

Apply for the remark, recheck or view paper method through the Department of Basic Education offices. These methods are helpful in gaining more marks. The remark options will get your paper marked for the second time by an examiner. You may get more marks as they mark each question accurately and fairly. 

The recheck method will get your exam paper checked by a professional. You may receive more marks as your paper is checked question after question. If you are not satisfied with the remark or recheck method, you can apply for the view paper method. 

Please note that you can only apply for the view paper once your exam paper has been remarked or rechecked. You will be given a chance to look at your paper yourself and ensure that you have been given the correct marks. 

  • The remark costs R104 for one exam paper
  • The recheck is R25 for one exam paper 
  • The view paper method is R200 for one exam paper

Redo Matric

You can go back to High School and repeat your Matric. This can be at your previous or new High School. To repeat your Matric, you must be younger than 21. You can create a study plan to help you get better this time. Make sure that you work hard to pass. Try using the following tips: 

  • Study for more than three hours daily 
  • Study to understand
  • Complete all your assessments 
  • Prepare for your exams 
  • Have a tutor

Second Chance Programme

Apply for the Second Chance Programme if you failed Matric. This is a programme designed by the Department of Basic Education to help students who failed get another chance to rewrite their Matric final examination. 

You can prepare for this final exam so that you pass. Dedicate your hours to studying. Make sure that you study everyday so that you can gain as much knowledge as possible. You will need this to answer questions in the exam.

Who Qualifies For Matric Second Chance?

You qualify for the Second Chance Programme if you meet these requirements: 

  • Failed to meet the requirements for the National Senior Certificate
  • You only want to rewrite subjects you failed 
  • You want to rewrite subjects you passed with low marks 
  • Missed an exam
  • If you have proof that you qualify to study at university but need to improve a subject to get accepted
  • You are not over the age of 21

Which Courses Can I Do Without Matric?

There are several courses you can do at Matric College without a Matric Qualification. These courses will either help you gain a Matric Certificate or higher qualifications that will help you gain employment. 

Rewrite Matric Course

Study the Rewrite Matric Course through Matric College and get a chance to rewrite your final examination. You can study smart in order to pass. Create a study schedule so that you can plan how to get high marks.

When you study the Rewrite Matric Course through Matric College, you will be given the following to help you in your studies: 

Adult Matric Course

You can enrol for the Adult Matric Course with a Grade 9 or Grade 9 Equivalent Qualification. This course will get you ready for university. You will receive a Matric Qualification when you have completed this course.

ICB Courses

You can study the ICB Courses if you have a Grade 10 Qualification. These courses will prepare you for work and business field. You will be equipped with skills and knowledge that is valuable in the workplace. This here will increase your opportunities of getting employed. These are the ICB Courses you can study: 

Short Courses

You can study for Short Courses without a qualification. These courses will get you ready for work and business. You will be equipped with a wide range of skills that employers love.

Can I Write My Matric At Home?

Yes, you can write your Matric at home. However, you cannot write the exam at home, but you can do the course from home. You can do this through Matric College because we are a distance learning institution. This means that you learn while you are home. You can study for our Matric Courses and gain a qualification from home.

Can I Go To University Without Matric?

No, you cannot study at university without Matric. You need a Matric Qualification which is a Bachelor’s Degree Pass to study. Your acceptance depends on whether you meet the requirements set by the university.

Is It Possible To Buy A Matric Certificate?

No, you can not buy a Matric Certificate. Buying qualifications is a legal offence. You can be arrested if you are found with a fake qualification. You are only allowed to pay for a Matric Certificate if you are applying for a re-issue of your Matric Certificate through the Department of Basic Education.
