Waiting for your Matric results can be nerve-wracking. You are constantly thinking about it and wondering if you have passed or not. However, this is what you should be doing to get your mind off things:

Sleep
When you were busy studying Matric, you had no proper time to rest. This is your chance to sleep and rest your mind and body.
Games
Take time to play fun games and refresh your mind. This will help you remove the tension you have because of Matric.
Family
Spend time with your family. You probably have not spent time with them in a while because you were so busy. They will lighten up your mood and help you get your mind off the Matric results.
Advice
Get advice from your family on what you should do if you have either passed or failed Matric. This will help you be at ease regardless of what the outcomes of the results will be.
At What Time Are The Matric Results Released?
Matric results are usually released in January, when the Matric students have completed their Matric final examination. You can find the Matric release date on the Department of Basic Education website after the final exam.
How Can I Get My Matric Results?
You can get your Matric results in the following ways:
- DBE website
- SMS
- USSD
- Newspaper
- School
DBE Website
- Go to the Department of Basic Education website
- Select the examination results button
- Select NSC exam results
- Your exam number must be entered
- More personal details will be required
- Press the search button
- You will get your Matric results
SMS
To get your Matric results through the SMS option, you must send your exam number to the number 35658. You will find your results when they are available. SMS fee is R1.50c. Please note that SMS codes and fees are subject to change.
USSD
To get your Matric results through the USSD method, you just dial *120*35658#. You may be asked to enter your exam number. Complete the process until you receive your results. Please note that SMS codes and fees are subject to change.
Newspaper
You can get your Matric results in a newspaper. There are certain newspapers that publish Matric results year after year. You must buy these newspapers early because they get sold quickly.
School
You can get your Matric results from the school where you wrote your Matric final examination.
Options If I Failed Matric
If you have failed Matric, you still have more chances to create a bright future. Below, we have compiled a list of things you can do if you failed Matric:
- Supplementary exam
- Redo Matric
- Study without Matric
Supplementary Exam
If you failed Matric and you are younger than the age of 21, you qualify to apply for a supplementary exam. This is a rewrite exam where you rewrite your final examination. It is a chance for you to study harder and pass your Matric.
You apply for the supplementary exam through the Department of Basic Education or Department of Provincial Education offices.
Redo Matric
Another option you have if you have failed Matric is to repeat the class. This is an advantage because you have experienced the class before. You know what to expect and this way, you can prepare for the class in time.
You can study before the school reopens and gain as much knowledge as possible. When school reopens, you will be ahead of the teachers. When they start teaching, you will have an even better understanding.
You can use past exam papers when studying to prepare for tests, assignments and exams. By now, you have an idea of how these assessments are set. You will have a higher chance of passing Matric this time around.
Study Without Matric

Short Courses are designed by the college to equip you with skills. These skills are good for work and business purposes. When you gain these skills, you can find employment or open a business of your own.

Rewrite Matric Course
If you failed Matric, you can apply for our Rewrite Matric Course. This is a course for students who want to rewrite their final exams and pass Matric. When you study at Matric College, we assist you to prepare for your exams.
We have tutors, study material and past exam papers that you can use in your preparations. Our tutors are available from Mondays to Fridays from 08:00 am until 05:00 pm. They can assist you with your studies.
Our past exam papers can help you when you study. We also have memorandums so that you can see the answers to the questions you are learning about.
Our study material is sent to you when you finish registering as our student. This is delivered to your door in five to seven days. You can use this to study.
Options If I Passed Matric
If you passed Matric, you did well. You have achieved an important qualification, which can help you study further or find employment. These are the things you can do with a Matric Certificate:
University
You can use a Matric Certificate to study at university. This applies if you received a Bachelor’s Degree Pass. Universities accept students who have passed with high marks. Note that even if you have passed with a Bachelor’s Degree Pass, it does not automatically guarantee your acceptance.
You must meet specific requirements in order to study at university.
College
If you have a Matric Certificate, you can study through a college. There are various colleges in South Africa including Matric College. We are a distance learning college that offers many courses.
We do not require that you have certain marks to study. If you passed your Matric, you can study with us. These are the courses you can study with Matric:
Employment
You can use a Matric Certificate to gain employment. You can look for employment opportunities that require Matric Qualifications. You can find employment opportunities such as:
