How to get your matric results from the Department of Basic Education?

When Matric results come out, there is a lot of anxiety. There are several methods you can use to access your Matric results. Choose the one that you prefer.

You can get your Matric from the Department of Basic Education (DBE) website. Here is what you do:

  • Visit the Department of Basic Education website
  • Click on –  Exam results
  • Enter your examination number

The Department of Basic  Education sends Matric results to your schools and examination centres. This means that you can also collect your Matric results at your school or at the examination centre where you wrote your exam

Use your Mobile Device

You can use the following mobile device functions to access your Matric results:

  • Short Messaging Service (SMS) 
  • Unstructured Supplementary Service Data (USSD)

Short Messaging Service (SMS)

Here are the steps that you can follow to access your Matric results by using the Short Messaging Service:

  • Open a new SMS message on your phone
  • Fill in your ID Number and Exam Number as the message
  • Both numbers must have 13 digits to be accepted
  • Send the SMS to this number: 35658
  • Your exam number and ID number will be checked 
  • View your results

Unstructured Supplementary Service Data (USSD) 

Follow these simple steps to access your Matric results when using USSD (you will be charged for this service): 

  1. On your phone, dial the USSD code *120*45856# 
  2. Enter your exam number
  3. Results will then be sent to your phone once they are available

MatricsMate App 

By downloading the MatricsMate App, you will also be able to access your Matric results. Here is what you do:

  1. Download the MatricsMate App for free from Google Play and Apple App stores
  2. Open the App
  3. Enter the following details:
    1. ID number

What Are The Matric Pass Levels?

Matric has different pass levels, Here are the Levels: 

 

Bachelor’s Degree Pass 

Here are the requirements for a Bachelor’s Degree Pass:

  • A minimum of 40% in your home language 
  • A minimum of 50% in four subjects 
  • A minimum of 30% in two other subjects 

Diploma Pass 

Here are the requirements for a Diploma Pass:

  • A minimum of 40% in your home language 
  • A minimum of 40% in four subjects 
  • A minimum of 30% in two other subjects 

Higher Certificate Pass

Here are the requirements for a Higher Certificate Pass:

  • A minimum of 40% in your home language 
  • A minimum of 40% in two subjects 
  • A minimum of 30% in four other subjects

 National Senior Certificate Pass

Here are the requirements for a National Senior Certificate Pass:

  •  A minimum of 40% in your home language 
  • A minimum of 30% in two other subjects

  • You can fail one subject 

How Are Matric Results Calculated?

Traditional Matric results are calculated based on the following: 

  • School-based assessments (SBA) 
  • Final Examination

School-Based Assessments (SBA)

The SBA contributes 25% towards your final marks. These are the marks that are used to boost your final examination marks. You must make sure that you complete the School-based Assessments so that you earn marks that will be helpful in your finals. 

The SBA assessments include: 

  • Class presentations 
  • June examination 
  • Assignments 
  • Tests

Final Examination

The final examination contributes 75% towards your final mark. You must ensure that you pass this well in order to have a good final mark. These are the results that will appear on your Matric Certificate. 

Your final examination marks are combined with your School-Based Assessment marks and create your final marks. This is how your final marks are calculated.

What Can I Study After Matric?

Here is what you can study after Matric:

NATED Courses 

NATED  stands for National Accredited Education Diploma. NATED Courses are also known as National Qualifications.  You can choose to study any of the following seven (7) courses:

ICB Courses

The Institute of Certified Bookkeepers (ICB) offers scarce skills courses. Scarce skills courses are those courses that are in demand. Here are the ICB Courses that you can study: 

Short Courses 

Short Courses (non-accredited courses) are designed by the College. You can study these courses with or without Matric to study. You are enabled with skills. Here are the Short Courses that you can study:

Matric Upgrade Course

Consider a Matric Upgrade Programme if you want to achieve any of the following: 

  • Write new subjects
  • Improve on the subjects already passed
  • Pass failed subjects
  • Change subjects

Does A Matric Certificate Expire?

No, a Matric Certificate does not expire. For as long as you live, your Matric Certificate will be valid.

Can I Download My Matric Statement Of Results?

No, you cannot download your Matric statement of results, but you can apply for it by contacting the Department of Basic Education (DBE). They will send it to you immediately through email. Keep in mind that you must have a Matric Certificate to apply for employment or further studies, instead of the Matric statement of results. You can apply for a replacement of your Matric Certificate on the DBE website as well. This can take between (4) four to (6) six weeks to be processed.

       NOTE:

The Statement Of Matric Results will cost R 55, 00

The Replacement Matric Certificate will cost R 153, 00

These prices will only be valid until 31 March 2023
