Where Can I Study Matric?

Complete your Matric via distance learning. We offer three Matric Courses: (1) Adult Matric Course, (2) Matric Upgrade Course, (3) Matric Equivalent Courses.

You can study your Matric at these two places:

  1. Matric College 
  2. In High School

Matric is an important qualification in South Africa and can open many doors for South Africans. A Matric Qualification is the minimum entry requirement for admission to universities and colleges.

Matric College

At Matric College, we offer courses you can complete with your Matric Qualification as well as without your Matric Qualification.

We are a distance learning college that allows you to complete your Matric as an adult. This means that you need to be at least 21 years or older. We have Matric Courses that help you:

In High School

This is where most South Africans complete their Matric. In High School, students have fixed classes that they have to attend. You can complete your Matric in High School if you are 21 and younger. Here are your options in High School:

What Is The Difference Between High School And Matric College?

Matric College High School
You can register any time of the year. You have to register at least 2 months before the year starts. Registration is not open for the entire year.
You have to be 21 or older to apply for the Adult Matric and Matric Upgrade Courses. You have to be younger than 21 to apply for Matric in High School.
You only have to pass 5 of the 6 subjects to get your Matric. You only have to pass 6 of the 7 subjects to get your Matric.
Your final Matric exam marks will be your final marks. This means that there is no year mark that can bring your final marks down. Your class marks are combined with your final Matric marks. This means that your year mark can bring your final mark up.
You can change your subjects to ones that suit your needs. You can only make changes to your subjects up until Grade 11.

Can I Do Matric Online?

Yes, you can do your Matric online at Matric College. We are a distance learning college that allows students to complete their Matric online. This is how your studies work with us:

  • You can apply online: As a distance learning institution, our application process is online. You can apply on WhatsApp, book a call back online, or complete a form online.
  • We use online tools: These tools are WhatsApp and email. You can submit your “assignments” online. We also offer tutor assistance, this will help you succeed as a Matric student.

We help you prepare for the exams online: We add past papers on our WhatsApp groups and allow our students to complete them in 48 hours. After 48 hours, we will post the memorandum.

Can I Study Without Grade 9?

Yes, you can study at Matric College without Grade 9.  We offer short courses that you can study without Matric. Here are all the short courses that we offer:

Can I Do Matric With Grade 9?

Yes, you can do your Matric with a Grade 9 Certificate at Matric College. In fact, this is one of the entry requirements at Matric College.

You can also apply with an ABET Level 4. ABET Level 4 is equivalent to a Grade 9 Certificate and is at an NQF Level 1.

ABET stands for Adult Basic Education and Training and is a programme for students to complete Grade 1 to Grade 9. This gives adults the opportunity to complete their Matric.

ABET Level 4 should not be confused with NQF Level 4.

Our Matric Courses

Adult Matric

This course is for students who have not completed their Matric but wish to do so as adults. Here are the entry requirements for this course:

  • Be 21 or older. You can apply at 19, but you have to be 21 when you write the final Matric exam.
  • Have a Grade 9 Certificate or Grade 9 Equivalent Certificate (ABET Level 4)
  • Understand, read and write English or Afrikaans
  • Study through distance learning

Matric Upgrade

This course is for students who have already completed Matric but have failed or need to improve their Matric Marks. Here are the entry requirements for this course:

  • Have an incomplete Matric Certificate or failed Matric Certificate. You can also apply with a Matric statement of results.
  • Understand, read and write English
  • Study through distance learning
NOTE:

The final Matric exams are only in October and November for this course.

Matric Equivalent Courses

These courses are at the same NQF Level as a Matric Certificate, which is an NQF Level 4. These courses are industry-specific and students who have completed these courses are work-ready. Here are the two Matric Equivalent courses that we offer:

  1. Small Business Financial Management: ICB National Certificate
  2. Bookkeeping: ICB FET Certificate

Small Business Financial Management: ICB National Certificate

This is the first course in the ICB Business Management Programme and is at NQF Level 4. You will learn the basics of business and get an NQF Level 4 Certificate. Here is what you need to apply for this course:

Bookkeeping: ICB FET Certificate

This is the second course in our ICB Financial Accounting Programme. All of our ICB Courses build on each other which means that you have to complete the previous course, which is the Bookkeeping: ICB National Certificate before you can complete the Bookkeeping: ICB FET Certificate. How Can I Pass Matric?

You can pass Matric at Matric College by following these three simple steps:

Step 1: Choose Subjects That Match Your Needs

It is important that you choose subjects that match your need and abilities. Here are the factors you should consider:

  • Which subjects do you enjoy
  • Which subjects are you good at
  • Which subjects do you need to complete a course at university

Step 2: Get A Study Schedule And Go Through Past Papers

Although we are a distance learning college, and you can study any time, you are ultimately accountable for your studies. Set up a fixed study schedule and go through past papers. This may help you for the following reasons:

  • You can practice how to answer questions
  • You learn new information
  • The same questions may be in the final Matric exam

Step 3: Ask For Help

Always ask for help when you need it. At Matric College, we have tutors that will assist you where you need help. We also have a friendly support team that will check up on your progress on a regular basis.

How Many Subjects Do You Need To Pass Matric?

You need to pass five or six subjects to pass Matric. This depends on the type of Matric you are completing. Here are your options:

  1. Adult Matric
  2. High School Matric

Adult Matric

You only need to pass five of the six subjects to pass Adult Matric. Here is what your marks should look like:

  • 40% in your Home Language
  • 40% in two other subjects
  • 30% in two other subjects
  • You may fail one subject. If you have failed a subject, it cannot be lower than 20%.

High School Matric

You only need to pass six of the seven subjects to pass Matric in High School. Here is what your marks should look like:

  • 40% in your Home Language
  • 40% in two other subjects
  • 30% in three other subjects
  • You may fail one subject. If you do fail one subject, you must get 40% for your Home Language and 40% and more for the other subjects.

What Can I Do If I Fail Matric?

If you have failed Matric, you can do the following:

Can You Buy Your Matric?

No, you cannot buy your Matric Certificate. This is illegal and you can be imprisoned. The only time you should pay for a Matric Certificate is in the following cases:

  1. If you want to replace your lost or damaged certificate
  2. If you want to get a statement of results
  3. If you want to combine your Matric Certificate

NOTE:

You can only apply for these certificates at the Department of Basic Education.

How Much Does It Cost To Get Your Matric Certificate?

To get a statement of results you will pay R55, to get the hard copy of your Matric Certificate, the fee will vary depending on your application.

  • To apply in person at the Department of Basic Education (DBE) offices or Provincial Department of Education (PDE) offices will cost R155,00.
  • To apply online through the DBE website will cost R155,00.
  • To apply through the Umalusi application portal, your fee will differ depening on your selection of how you will receive your certificate.

You can choose to:

  • Collect it yourself from the Umalusi offices in Pretoria. This will cost R137,00.
  • Have it couriered to you. This will cost R202,00.

This applies to both lost, damaged and combination of Matric Certificates.Do not buy a Matric Certificate from anyone other than the DBE or Umalusi, as these are not official certificates, and are illegal.

You may only apply for your Matric Certificate if you have already completed Matric. If you have not completed Matric, apply for our Adult Matric course.
