Is Adult Matric The Same As Matric?

Yes, Adult Matric and Matric are the same. Only the following distinguishes one from the other:

  • Adult Matric is studied through college only if you are 21 or older
  • Traditional Matric is studied in High School only if you are below the age of 21

Which Subjects Can I Study For Adult Matric?

The Adult Matric Programme requires you to study three (3) compulsory and three (3) elective subjects. The three (3) compulsory subjects consist of the following:

  • Two (2) languages
    • One (1) Home Language
    • One (1) First Additional Language
  • One (1) Mathematics subject
    • Mathematics or
    • Mathematical Literacy

How Do I Register For My Adult Matric Exams?

There are two ways that you can use to register for Adult Matric exams. Matric College can also help you to register for your exams:

  2. In-person registration  

Online Registration

To register online for your Adult Matric exam, go to the Department of Eduaction’s E-services website.

In-Person Registration

To register in-person, go to any Education Provincial Office near you.

Documents Needed For Adult Matric Registration

The following documents are required when you are registering for your Adult Matric exams:

South African Nationals

  • A completed registration form 
  • Certified copy of your ID or birth certificate
  • For students who have written Grade 12 or equivalent exam before, proof of the respective examination numbers is required 

Non-South Africans 

  • Certified copy of your passport.
  • Proof of highest qualification. 
  • Proof of study permit.

How Many Subjects Do I Need To Pass Adult Matric

To pass Adult Matric, you will need to pass at least five (5) of the six (6) subjects that you write. Those writing the traditional need to pass at least six (6) of the seven (7) subjects that they write.
