How Can I Finish My Matric At Home?

You can study for your Matric from home by enrolling to study at Matric College. Our courses are offered completely through distance learning, which means it is all online. Even through the convenience of distance learning, how you set up your study environment is equally important. Keep your motivation levels up with some of these tips:

  • Create and stick to a routine you will follow
  • Find a spot that is void of noise or find ways to minimise distractions:
    • Could be muting your phone
    • Informing your family and friends of the times you will study
    • Include calming music if that will help keep focused
    • Ensure you are in a well-lit area, and arrange the lighting to your liking
  • Summarise sections in your own words, to help retain information
  • Devote days for revision only, this will help you continuously recap what you learn and can lead to avoiding burnout 
  • Keep yourself healthy. This may seem trivial, but a balanced diet and proper sleep can do wonders for your body

Along with your study space and routine, you’ll also have access to support that makes home learning easier. This includes textbooks, study guides, and digital resources delivered directly to you, as well as tutor assistance and help via phone or WhatsApp. With these tools in place, you’ll never feel like you’re studying alone, you’ll always have guidance when you need it most.

Can I Write My Matric Online?

No, you cannot write your Matric exams online. All Matric exams must be written in a venue designated by the Department of Basic Education (DBE). 

These exam centres are available across South Africa, including in major cities and smaller towns, to make access easier. Once you’re registered for your exams, you’ll be allocated to a venue near your location. Registering early helps you secure a convenient venue and gives you peace of mind as you prepare for your exams.

Can I Do Matric Online For 3 Months?

No, you cannot complete Matric from start to finish in three months. A full Matric course will take a minimum of 12 months to complete and can take up to 36 months to complete. 

However, if you are upgrading your Matric or redoing your Matric because of incomplete results, you can register before the closing date in early February each year and rewrite the exams in May/June. This means you can study and complete the Matric Rewrite in three months.

This option is ideal for students who only need to improve one or two subjects and are ready to commit to an intensive study schedule. Planning ahead and registering on time makes all the difference, as it allows you to fast-track your results without waiting another full academic year.

No matter your situation starting from scratch, rewriting, or upgrading the right plan makes completing your Matric from home realistic and achievable.

How Can I Get My Matric Certificate Without Going Back To My High School?

You can check Matric results online in many ways once they have been released. However, your official Matric Certificate will be sent to your school or to the Exam Centre where you wrote your exams. You will have to collect your Matric Certificate from there once it has been delivered.

In some cases, there may be delays in delivery or collection, especially during peak exam periods. If your certificate doesn’t arrive on time, it’s important to follow up directly with your exam centre or the Department of Basic Education (DBE). Having a copy of your statement of results can serve as proof of completion until your certificate is ready.

Where Can I Get My Matric Certificate Online?

Your results can be accessed through the official website of the Department of Basic Education.  Or, you can receive your results where you wrote your exam. Sometimes due to technical reasons, your results may not be available. If this happens, please notify the correct department of this immediately. 

Your statement of results is usually available from January, but this is not always guaranteed. Sometimes students might experience delays. In this case, stay informed and communicate well with the department or your school.

Can I Get A Copy Of My Certificate Online?

You can apply at the Department of Basic Education (DBE) for an e-Matric e-Re-Issue if your original Matric certificate was misplaced or damaged. This service is also available for students who wish to combine their results. There are two options:

Option 1: In The Case Of A Lost Or Damaged Certificate

This option will require you to have some documents that include involving the police assistance:

Go to the nearest police station and request an affidavit if your certificate is lost or damaged, noting the following:
  • State what happened to your certificate
You will also need to have the original national or senior certificate:
  • Only applicable if your certificate was damaged
  • This is not necessary if you lost your certificate
Ensure that you have a certified copy of your identity document:
  • You can have the copy certified at a police station
You will need to provide proof of the payment you made:
  • Always keep proof of payment for the services you paid for

Umalusi also has an online application option for lost or damaged certificates. They also require similar documentation from you to process the application.

Option 2: Combining Your Matric Results

If you believe at any time that your results need improvement. You may likely have rewritten some subjects, creating two sets of results. The DBE and Umalusi both offer the service to combine results. You can also choose your delivery method.

How Long will It Take To Get My Matric Certificate Online?

When you consider the time frame of rechecks and remarks, as well as exams. The issuing of your new certificate will take about 4 to 6 weeks. For a statement of results, you will be charged a fee of R60.00

How Can I Check My Matric Results Online?

You can check the results of your exam using the DBE website. On their website, there is an option to see your exam results. Consider theses steps you can follow provided in the table:

  • Here you will need to provide your exam number in the space provided and click on the search button

Can I Verify My Matric Online?

There are options for South Africans to verify their qualifications. Matric is the foundation of tertiary education and entry-level positions. Ensuring that your qualification does indeed meet the National standards becomes important. 

Here is how you can verify your qualifications: 

  • You will need to request an extract from the NRLD through SAQA
    • This will require personal details such as your ID and your consent form
    • Please ensure that the certified copies of your ID or password are not older than 3 months
  • You will need to attach the certified copies of your ID/Passport and consent form. Email these to the verification email
    • You need to follow the instructions provided
  • A copy of the information that was found on the NRLD will be sent to the email you have provided

This result does not replace your certificate. If you want your qualification verified, you will need to request a verification letter from SAQA. The South African Qualification Authority has a portal called VeriSearch

Can I Change My Name And Surname On My Matric Certificate?

If you want to change your Name or Surname, you need to apply to the Department of Basic Education (DBE). You can also go to your provincial education department. The form you will need for this process is the Re-issues application form.

After you have completed the form, you will need to attend an interview. This you can arrange for at the nearest DBE or Provincial Education Department. It is a formality to discuss certain factors before the amendments are made. 

While you are waiting for the new certificate, you will be issued with a statement of results.

Any person who has completed and passed their subjects qualifies for an Umalusi certificate. You can consider Umalusi as the council that monitors as well as sets standards for further education

Can I Do Matric At A TVET College?

Yes, you can study Matric at a TVET College. At a TVET College, you will study National Certificate (Vocational) (NC (V)) Levels. You will study NC(V) Levels 2, 3, and 4, that equivalent to Grades 10, 11, and 12 (Matric).

What Are The 4 Different Matric Pass Levels?

In Matric, you fall under certain passing categories. The highest pass is also known as distinction. This pass will allow you to enter any university, except for meeting your programme’s requirements.

What Is The Lowest Certificate In Matric?

The lowest Pass Level you can achieve in Matric is a National Senior Certificate (NSC) Pass, also known as a Matric Pass. 

Can I Fail Maths And Still Pass Matric?

Yes, you can still pass Matric, even if you fail Mathematics. You may fail one subject as long as you meet all other requirements for the pass level.  You are, however, not allowed to fail your Home Language subject.

If you fail more than one subject or fail your Home Language subject, you will fail Matric. If this happens, you can apply for a Matric Rewrite. This will allow you to rewrite your Matric exams in the subjects you failed, so you have the chance to improve your marks and pass. 

Can I Buy A Matric Certificate?

No, you cannot buy a Matric Certificate. All Matric Certificates are awarded by Umalusi. According to Umalusi, it is a criminal offence to participate in the buying and selling of Matric Certificates

Keep in mind that your records are indeed recorded on a database that is accessible by Umalusi and managed by SAQA. Through this recording process, your certificates will be able to be verified. 

What Can I Do If I Do Not Have A Matric Certificate?

Matric Rewrite

If you feel that the results you obtained were not enough. Or if you need to improve your understanding of the subjects you have failed, The option for a rewrite becomes the best choice. This option is available for students who just completed Matric or are under the age of 21. 

At Matric College, you will need to provide us with either your complete or incomplete Matric results. We will be providing you with your study materials and a supportive environment. If you are unsure about the payments, our course experts are there to help you choose the appropriate plan. 

You will not be able to change your subjects with this option. You will need to rewrite the subjects you have already written before. We do have a different course that allows you to change to different subjects. 

Matric Upgrade

The Matric Upgrade Course we offer is available to those who are 21 or older, have written Matric before, and would like to improve their results. 

While you must be 21 or older to write the exams, you can be 19 when you register. This is because you will write the Senior Certificate (also known as Adult Matric) exams when doing a Matric Upgrade. Registering and starting your studies at 19 will give you 36 months to study and prepare to pass your exams well.

You may only upgrade up to four subjects. You are also allowed to add up to four new subjects that you have not done previously. This will allow you to meet the subject requirements that Colleges and Universities may have.

Adult Matric

Adult Matric is available to those who are 21 or older and have not written Matric before. After  successfully completing your Adult Matric, you will receive your Amended Senior Certificate

This functions the same way as a National Senior Certificate (NSC), also known as a school Matric. You can use your Senior Certificate (Amended) to apply for jobs or to study further.

Can I Complete ICB Courses Or Short Courses Without Matric?

Yes, you can do both without Matric! The Institute of Certified Bookkeepers (ICB) offers three streams of study. You can study any of these three courses, even if you do not have Matric.

This means that you will study to obtain a qualification that is formally recognised in South Africa. Matric College offers a range of Short Courses, all of which are available to study without Matric. Our Short Courses only have three entry requirements.  Take a look at the requirements:

  • You must be comfortable with and able to study through distance learning

These courses can be completed in a matter of weeks, months or a year. This depends on the course. Even though short courses fall under non-accredited qualifications. This still does not mean it is not recognised by employers. It showcases that you enjoy learning and expanding your knowledge!

Whether you want an accredited qualification to build a career or a short course to learn new skills, you don’t need Matric to keep moving forward, there’s always a way to grow

What Other Options Do I Have To Complete Matric?

There might be other Institutions that provide Matric, but are they the best option for You? At Matric College, we are devoted to providing students the options to complete their Matric regardless of their level of understanding. 

Here are a couple of things you may have thought about:

  1. Maybe I will not  have enough time to study
    Answer: We offer distance learning, with the option of full-time or part-time studies.
  2. Will I be able to afford to study?
    Answer: Matric College provides different payment plans, including a unique payment that can be arranged.
  3. I Do not have the devices for studying online
    Answer: With us, your books will be delivered. The only time you will need an internet connection and devices will be to stay in contact with tutors, and peers or upload assignments.
  4. How do I know the certificate I get is accredited?
    Answer: Your exams will be taken at exam centres registered with the DBE. Your papers will also be marked by the Department of Education. And after completing your exams with a pass, you will receive a certificate from Umalusi.
