Recheck, Remark, Or View Your Paper

This option is only for students who truly believe that they have been given incorrect grades. You can determine this by looking at your year mark and how you wrote the exams.

It is very important to note that these processes rarely improve your marks by much. You are not paying the examiners to give you better marks. You are simply asking them to check your marks again to make sure that they are indeed correct.

Here are the differences between the (3) three processes:

Where Can I Complete Matric?

Recheck

Remark

View

Your exam paper will be checked for a second time.

Your exam paper will be marked for a second time.

You get to view your paper. You can only complete this process once the recheck and remark have been completed.

This ensures that your mark allocation is correct.

This ensures that all answers were marked fairly.

This allows you to see where you went wrong or right.

You can complete your Matric at Matric College.

We offer many Matric Courses to choose from. If you have not completed your Matric, now is the time to apply for our Adult Matric Course.

What Is Adult Matric?

Adult Matric is a course designed for adult learners who would like to complete their Matric. This gives them a chance to find better employment opportunities, get a promotion at work, or further their education.

Here is what you need to apply for this course:

  • Be at least 19 to apply for this course. You do, however, have to be at least 21 years old to write the final Senior Certificate exam.
  • Have an ABET Level 4 Qualification or a Grade 9 Certificate. Either qualification will allow you to start your Matric journey.
  • Understand, read and write English or Afrikaans. Our subjects are only provided in these (2) two languages.
  • Be able to study through distance learning. Online learning gives you more time to focus on other commitments such as family and work.

How Many Subjects Do I Need To Pass Matric?

You need to pass (6) six subjects in High School to pass Matric. This means that you can fail a minimum of (1) one subject, but not your Home Language.

Another condition is that you pass the rest of your subjects with at least 40% or higher.

The same rule applies to Adult Matric students. However, you only need to pass (5) five subjects. This is because the Adult Matric Course does not include Life Orientation.

What Is The Minimum Pass Mark For Matric?

The minimum pass mark for Matric is 40%.

However, this is only to pass Matric. If you want to gain entry to university or if you would like to receive a bursary or scholarship, you have to improve your marks and get at least 60% and higher.

To receive the lowest Matric Pass Level, you must achieve the following marks:

  • 40% for your Home Language
  • 40% for two (2) other subjects
  • 30% for the rest of the subjects
  • You may fail (1) one subject

This is called a National Senior Certificate Matric Pass Level.

What Is A Failing Grade In South Africa?

A failing grade in South Africa is between 0% and 29%.

This does not apply to your Home Language. If you get between 0 and 39% for your Home Language, it is also referred to as a failing grade. You will then fail Matric because you are not allowed to fail your Home Language.

Can You Fail A Grade Twice In South Africa?

Yes, you can fail a grade twice in South Africa. The second time that you fail, you will automatically be transferred to the next grade.

While you can fail, it is not encouraged. We have great exam resources and study tips for students who are preparing for the final Matric exams. This will ensure that they are well prepared and lower the chances of them failing.

How Many Times Can I Repeat Matric?

In High School, you can only repeat Matric until you reach the age of 21. If you are already in the schooling system you can finish school after you are 21 years old.

For example:

  • If you have failed the Grades 9, 10 and 11 twice throughout your High School years. You are still part of the schooling system, but you will complete Matric at the age of 22.
  • If you have left school in Grade 9, but decide to go back at the age of 18, you will complete school at the age of 23.

This is why completing Matric as an adult may be easier for some. If you are completing our Adult Matric Course, you can rewrite your Matric Exam multiple times until you pass.

Can I Combine My Matric Results Even If I Failed?

No, you cannot combine your Matric results even if you failed.

Your results can only be combined if there is an improvement in your marks. This will also look better on your Matric Certificate.

Which Subjects Do Most Students Fail In Matric?

Students mostly fail Mathematics and Science in Matric.

This is due to the following reasons:

  • Students have very little interest in the subject but take it as most universities choose students with these Matric subjects. Most of the time this is influenced by parents and friends.
  • Teachers not being knowledgeable on the subject. Some Teachers need more training themselves and this affects students’ progress.

At Matric College, students get the opportunity to change their Matric subjects to ones that suit them best. This can be done through our Matric Upgrade Course.

Can You Fail Maths Or Science And Still Pass Matric ?

Yes, you can fail Maths or Science and still pass Matric.

The only subject that you are not allowed to fail is your Home Language. You may also fail no more than one (1) subject.

Some students even pass with a Bachelor’s Degree Matric Pass Level and fail one of the above-mentioned subjects.

People Also Ask

Yes, you can pass Grade 9 if you fail Mathematics.

The best advice we can give you is to:

  • Study smarter, not harder
  • Find a study method that works for you
  • Find a tutor
  • Choose Mathematical Literacy when you reach Grade 10

The reason you are still failing even when you are studying hard is that you have not found the study method that works for you.
