Advice for students who want to better their matric results

You can get your Matric through Matric College by studying for the Rewrite Matric, Upgrade Matric or Adult Matric course and gain a Matric Certificate.

Are you not satisfied with your Matric results? There is no need to worry. You have a chance to improve your results. There are various options you can take to get better Matric results. These are the options you have: 

Supplementary Exam

The supplementary exam also known as the Second Chance Programme or Matric Rewrite is a programme designed by the Department of Basic Education. This programme helps students who have either failed or missed an exam. 

You can apply for this programme through the Department of Basic Education,  Department of Provincial Education offices, or at your school. This is what you will need to apply:

  • You failed to meet the requirements for passing the National Senior Certificate
  • You are rewriting subjects you failed only 
  • You want to rewrite subjects you passed with low marks 
  • You missed the exam due to unforeseen circumstances 
  • If you have proof that you qualify to study at university but need to improve a subject to gain admission 
  • You are not above the age of 21 

Matric Upgrade

If you passed or failed your Matric and wish to improve your results, you can apply for the Upgrade Matric Course at Matric College. This course is a chance for you to study and gain better results. 

The best part about studying the Upgrade Matric Course at Matric College is that you get assistance. We help you prepare for your exams so that you pass with better marks. 

We have tutors that are available to assist you from Mondays to Fridays from 08:00 am to 05:00 pm. You can contact them through email, call or WhatsApp. They help you prepare for your exams by providing clarity if you feel stuck when studying. You can ask them as many questions as you can to help you gain understanding. 

We also have study materials to help you when you study. This includes study guides, textbooks and learning checklists. This material helps you gain knowledge that will help you answer questions in the exam. 

To prepare best for the exams. We have grade 12 past exam papers and memorandums that you can use. These will help you train yourself how to answer exam questions. You will see how examiners set their questions and how they expect the answers to be written. 

These are the requirements for the Upgrade Matric Course

  • Must have an incomplete Matric results or
  • Your final Matric results
  • Passed or failed Matric results 
  • Matric statement of results 
  • Matric Certificate 

Recheck

Applying for a recheck is another good option to gain better marks. This is a process whereby your exam paper gets checked by an examiner. They look at your answers section by section to ensure that you were given fair marks. 

To apply for a recheck, you must do it through the Department of Basic Education. It costs R25 for one paper to be rechecked. Note that the fee is subject to change. 

Remark

A remark is a good option if you want to gain marks. This is a process where your exam paper is marked for the second time by an examiner. They go through your paper, remarking on each question. This is to ensure that you get marks that are fair and accurate. 

To apply for a remark, you can do through the Department of Basic Education. The remark is R104 per subject. Note that the fee is subject to change. 

Redo Matric

If you failed Matric, you can study all over again. You can go back to your previous school and redo Matric. This will help you to start from scratch. You can work on passing with higher marks. This is possible if you commit enough to your studies. These are a few things you can do to pass: 

  • Study every day for at least four hours 
  • Ask questions in class when you do not understand
  • Do all your homework activities 
  • Complete all assignments 
  • Participate in oral presentations 
  • Use past exam papers to practise for the final exams
  • Attend extra classes or have a personal tutor 
  • Study with other students and share ideas 
  • Write all tests and exams 

Is Upgrading Matric A Good Idea?

Yes, upgrading your Matric is a good idea. This is because when you upgrade your marks, you can get better marks. This opens various opportunities for you because when you have good Matric marks, you gain access to different things such as: 

University

When you have good marks, you may qualify to study at university. This is because universities accept good marks. If you have passed with a Bachelor’s Degree Pass, you have a better chance of being accepted. 

Please note that you must still meet certain requirements in order to study at university, even though you have passed with a Bachelors’ Degree Pass. 

Course

When you have upgraded your marks to better results, you can gain entry into the course you want. Universities usually require certain marks for certain courses. For example, if you want to study a Financial Management Course, they can require that you have 60% or higher marks for Mathematics. 

If you have good marks, you will have a better chance of getting into university and studying the course you want. 

Employment

Good marks are valued by employers. When you have taken the time to upgrade your marks, it is easy to see that you are a person of perseverance and hard work. There are not many people who can take the time to upgrade their marks. This says a lot about your character. 

Good marks can help you gain employment. You can find work opportunities such as: 

  • Personal assistant 
  • Sales Agent 
  • Call Centre Agent 
  • Receptionist 
  • General Worker 
  • Waiter/Waitress 
  • Cashier 
  • Store Assistant 

Bursary

Good marks can help you get a bursary opportunity. Most bursaries require that you have good marks. This is to guarantee that you will be able to keep up with the good marks at university. This way, the bursary company can maintain a reputation of offering bursaries to students who are worthy. 

Confidence

When you upgrade your marks, you have a different kind of confidence. Good marks give a greater confidence. You will feel more confident in yourself academically and as a person. You will believe in second chances and never give up in life when things are hard.

Can I Upgrade My Matric Results After 5 Years?

Yes, you can upgrade your marks after five (5) years of leaving Matric. You can do this through Matric College. You qualify to upgrade your marks whether you failed or passed Matric. Through this Upgrade Matric Course, you will get to study for better marks. 

Do Universities Accept Upgraded Marks?

Yes, universities accept upgraded marks. In fact, most universities will advise you to upgrade your marks so that you can gain entry into the course you want. If you pass with a Bachelor’s Degree pass, you will have a higher chance of getting into university. 

How Many Hours Should A Matric Student Study?

A Matric student should study for at least four (4) to six (6) hours every day. This is the only way you will pass with good marks. Studying for long hours daily will help you gain knowledge faster, and you will not forget what you study because you are constantly revising your notes.
