Waiting for your results while doing nothing can be stressful. Try to keep yourself busy by doing something productive. The best way to do this can be by improving your skills. As you wait to go to university or college, you can be preparing for it in advance. 

You need skills in order to enjoy university or college more. These are skills that you will need while you study. To make your experience easy, improve the following skills:

Writing Skills

When you get to university or college, you will be doing a lot of writing. You will have to take notes in class for different modules. This includes writing in a book as well as typing on a computer. 

You will need to practise writing and typing fast. This will help you keep up with your studies. You can take this time to work on your grammar and spelling. Make sure that you know how to construct a clear sentence. 

Practise how to use a computer and learn how to type fast. This will help you when you type your assignments and other tasks. 

Computer Skills

You will use a laptop or computer when you are at college or university. You may even use this in class for presentations, class lectures, and exams. You must know how to operate a computer so that you find it easy to work on it. 

Learn the computer software and hardware. When it comes to presentation, you will create beautiful graphics because you know the software on the computer. 

Study Skills

In order to pass at university, you will need to be able to study. To study and pass is a skill. Learn to study on a daily basis. This will help you stay up to date with what you are learning in class. 

Studying daily helps you to not forget the information you have learnt the previous day because you are constantly revising your notes. Here are a few study tips you can use: 

  • Buy stationery (notebooks, pens, markers, highlighters, sticky notes) 
  • Make your studying interesting by keeping your notes colourful 
  • Create a study timetable 
  • Have a snack while you study, e.g. popcorn
  • Have study sessions with other students 

Social Skills

At college or university, you will need to have a relationship with other students. This will help when you do group presentations. It will be easy to communicate with others if you already have a relationship with them. 

Practice your social skills by communicating more with your friends. This will help you get used to speaking to other people. You may find it easy to make friends when you study at university or college.

Interview Skills

When you have completed your studies at university or college, you will start looking for employment. One of the most important things is preparing for a work interview. You can always prepare in advance.

What Can I Do With My Matric Results?

You can do a lot with your Matric results, depending on whether you failed or passed your Matric. Here are your options if you passed or failed Matric: 

Failed Matric Options

If you failed your Matric, you still have options to pass your Matric. This is what you can do: 

Remark 

If you failed Matric, you can apply for a remark. Your exam paper will be remarked by a professional, and they will ensure that all questions are marked correctly. This may help you gain marks. A remark costs R104 for one paper. Please note that the fee is subject to change. 

Recheck 

If you failed Matric, you can apply for a recheck. Your exam paper will be rechecked by a professional. They will check all questions, ensuring that you have received accurate and fair marks. The recheck costs R25 per paper. Please note that the fee is subject to change. 

View Paper 

If your paper has been rechecked or remarked, you qualify for the view paper. You will view your exam paper to see if it was marked or checked correctly. It costs R200 to view your exam paper. Please note that the fee is subject to change. 

Redo Matric 

You can redo your Matric if you failed. You can do it at your previous school or a different one. You qualify to do this if you are not over the age of 21. You will have a better chance to pass if you have a study plan. 

For someone who has been in Matric before, you will have more advantage because you know how things are done. Prioritise your time and spend it studying. Make sure you study every day so that you can obtain as much knowledge as possible. This will help you in your assessments. 

Supplementary Exam 

If you want to rewrite your final exams, you can. You are allowed to rewrite as long as you are not over the ages of 21. You can use past exam papers to prepare for the exam and make sure that you get better marks this time around. 

The supplementary exams are available through your school and the Department of Basic Education (DBE). 

Passed Matric Options

If you passed your Matric, that is great. You did well, and you should be proud of your hard work. You have obtained an important qualification, which is a Matric Certificate. You will be able to further your education. This is what you can do with your Matric Certificate
