What Can I Do With My N6 Certificate?

The N6 National Certificate is the last theoretical course in any NATED Programme. After you have completed this course you can apply for work experience.

Here is what you can do with your N6 Certificate:

  • Get an entry-level position
  • Obtain your N6 National Diploma
  • Further your studies with another NATED Course

Get An Entry-Level Position

After you have completed your N6 National Certificate, which is the theoretical component of the NATED Course, you can find entry-level positions. Here are the seven (7) NATED programmes that we offer in partnership with Bellview Institute of Distance Learning and their entry-level positions:

  1. Business Management: NATED N6 National Certificate
  2. Financial Management: NATED N6 National Certificate
  3. Human Resource Management: NATED N6 National Certificate
  4. Legal Secretary: NATED N6 National Certificate

Obtain Your N6 National Diploma

After you have completed and passed all of your National Certificates up to the N6 National Certificate, you should apply for your work experience. Our NATED Courses consists of both theoretical and practical component. 

You have to complete 18 months of theory and another 18 months of work experience.  The entry requirements for the N6 National Diploma is that you have completed the previous courses:

  • N4 National Certificate
  • N5 National Certificate
  • N6 National Certificate

All of our NATED National Certificate Courses build on to the next course, which means you have to complete the first course to gain entry into the next course. The image below indicates the process:

How NATED Courses Work

The N6 National Diploma only consists of work experience. To gain work experience, the Department of Higher Education and Training (DHET) has created the iWIL programme. This service helps students find work-based learning and help employers find students that can work for their company.

Further Your Studies With Another NATED Programme

You can further your studies by completing another NATED programme. For example, if you have completed the entire programme for Marketing Management, then you can gain more knowledge about the world of business by applying for the NATED Business Management Programme.

What Is An N6 Qualification Equivalent To?

The N6 Qualification is not equivalent to any other qualification. If it is an N6 National Certificate, it is at NQF Level 5. If it is an N6 National Diploma, it is at NQF Level 6. All NATED Qualifications are not equivalent to any other qualification. It may appear on the National Qualifications Framework (NQF) system, but it has:

  • A different purpose
  • Different exit-level outcomes

All NATED courses were designed by the DHET to ensure that students gain both theory and work experience. Here is a diagram of the NATED courses and their positions on the NQF system:

How Many Credits Does N6 Have?

An N6 National Certificate has 60 credits. An N6 national Diploma has 360 credits. This is because the N6 National Certificate only consists of the theoretical component. The N6 National Diploma consists of the following credits:

  • N4 National Certificate: 60 credits
  • N5 National Certificate: 60 credits
  • N6 National Certificate: 60 credits
  • N6 National Diploma: 360 credits

This means that 180 credits are for the practical component and 180 credits for the work experience component. In total, it is 360 credits.

How Long Does It Take To Complete N4 To N6?

It can take between 18 months to 36 months to complete the N4 to N6 National Certificates. Here are your options:

36 months:

You will complete the 18 months of theory first and then complete your 18 months of work experience.

Is N6 A National Diploma?

Yes,  An N6 can be a National Diploma. This is how you know if you have completed your N6 National Diploma:

  • You have completed your 18 months of work experience, and it has been approved by the DHET
  • You have received your N6 National Diploma directly from the DHET
  • You have gained 360 credits
  • Your qualification is at NQF Level 6

Is A National NATED Diploma Equivalent To A National Diploma?

No, a National NATED Diploma is not equivalent to a National Diploma. Both qualifications are at the same NQF Level but are not equivalent to one another. A NATED National Diploma has:

  • A different kind of purpose
  • An exit-level outcome of a different kind

Can I Upgrade My Diploma To A Degree?

Yes, you can only upgrade your Diploma Matric Pass Level to a Bachelor’s Degree Matric Pass Level. We offer a Matric Upgrade Course that helps our students upgrade their Matric Pass level. Here are the entry requirements:

  • Have already completed your Matric 
  • Understand, read and write English
  • Study via distance learning

Can I Go To University With A National NATED Diploma?

No, you cannot go to university with your NATED Diploma. Many universities only look at the following factors:

Can I Apply For A Degree With An N6?

No, you cannot apply for a Degree with an N6 National Certificate. Many universities look at the following factors:

  • Your APS Score
  • Your Matric Pass Level
  • The subjects completed in Matric

Can I Apply For PGCE With N6?

No, you cannot apply for a Postgraduate Certificate in Education (PGCE) with an N6 National Certificate. You must have the following qualifications to apply for the PGCE:

  • You must have a Bachelor’s Degree that has one or more school subjects
  • A three-year Advanced Diploma that has one or more school subjects

Why Should I Complete My N6 Certificate At Matric College?
