What Does N4 And N6 Mean?

N4 to N6 refers to the NATED Courses found in each NATED Programme. These courses are found in every NATED Programme. NATED Courses are built on each other. You must study the first one to the last in order. This is how the courses are arranged in each NATED Programme: 

  • NATED N4 National Certificate 
  • NATED N5 National Certificate

How do nated courses work

What Are NATED Subjects?

NATED subjects are subjects you find in NATED Courses. You must study and pass these subjects in order to pass the NATED Courses. This is how you gain knowledge in the course. Each NATED Course has its own set of subjects which students will have to complete.

How Do NATED Courses Work?

NATED Courses work in the following way: 

There are four courses in one NATED programme. Three courses are certificate courses and the last one is a Diploma course. The certificate courses focus on theory and the Diploma course focus on work experience. 

You pass NATED Courses by obtaining 50% or higher marks in each subject. This is the pass mark required. For each subject in a NATED Course, you are required to complete three (3) open book assignments and one final exam. 

To receive the last qualification, which is the NATED N6 National Diploma, you must complete 18 months of work experience. Here is how you can complete our work experience:

  • Register on the iWIL website 
    • The iWIL website was designed by the Department of Higher Education and Training
    • The website helps students find volunteer work that will allow them to gain experience
  • After you register, you will receive a job at a company where you will complete your work experience
  • During your work experience, we will provide you with a logbook to fill out
  • We send you a logbook automatically, so you do not need to apply
  • Your logbook must be signed off by the manager at the company where you completed your work experience
  • Please return the logbook to us, and we will send it to DHET for approval
  • The DHET will issue your NATED N6 National Diploma once your logbook has been approved

What Is The Importance Of A National Certificate?

A National Certificate is important because it helps you gain knowledge that is valuable in the work environment. You can use a National Certificate to study further or find employment. 

Are NATED Courses Accredited?

Yes, NATED Courses are accredited by the DHET and the QCTO. These courses help you gain knowledge that is of quality standard because they are monitored by professional bodies. 

How Many Credits Does N4 Have?

The National Courses have the following credits: 

  • NATED N4 National Certificate – 60 credits 
  • NATED N5 National Certificate – 60 credits 
  • NATED N6 National Certificate – 60 credits 
  • NATED N6 National Diploma – 360 credits

Can I Apply For NATED With A Higher Certificate?

Yes, you can study for a NATED Course with a Higher Certificate Pass. You can study for NATED Courses with a Matric Certificate of any Pass Level

Can I Do NATED Without Matric?

No, you can not study a NATED Course without Matric. You must have a Matric Certificate to study. If you do not have Matric, you can study our Adult Matric Course. This course will award you with a Matric Certificate. These are the requirements you must meet to study the Adult Matric course: 

  • You passed Grade 9 and have proof of your report OR
  • You completed a Grade 9 equivalent course (i.e. an ABET Certificate) that included two official language subjects
    • You are 21 or older when you write your exams
    • You can apply as early as the age of 19 and start studying
  • You can read, write and understand English or Afrikaans 
  • You are able to study via distance learning

You can use the Matric Certificate you receive from the Adult Matric Course to study our NATED Courses. 

If you have completed Matric but failed, then you should consider completing our Matric Upgrade Course. This course allows students to improve their Matric marks and pass their Matric. Here are the entry requirements for this course:

  • Have completed Matric. You can submit any Matric results.
  • Understand, read and write English
  • Study through distance learning

How Long Is A NATED Course?

NATED Courses take about 18 to 36 months to be completed. This is because it takes 6 to 18 months to complete the NATED N4 to N6 National Certificates, and 18 months for the N6 National Diploma. 

What Can I Do With A NATED Qualification?

You can use a NATED Qualification to find employment. This qualification can help you find employment because of the following:
