What Is An Amended Senior Certificate?

An Amended Senior Certificate is a qualification you are awarded once you have completed the Adult Matric course. this gives you acess to study at university.

A Senior Certificate (Amended) is a qualification you are awarded once you have completed the Adult Matric course. This is a course for adult students who want to get their Matric. You can study this course through a college. Matric College is one of the colleges that offer the Adult Matric course. Once you have completed this course, you will be able to further your studies at university or find employment. 

Adult Matric Course Requirements: 

  • You must have at least a Grade 9 or Grade 9 Equivalent Qualification, 
    • i.e.: Adult Basic Education and Training (ABET) Level 4
  • You have an incomplete Matric 
  • You must be able to read, write and understand English or Afrikaans 
  • You must be 21 years or older to write the exams 
  • You may sign up for the Adult Matric course at the age of 19 years old, but you will only be able to write the Adult Matric exam once you are over 21

Why The Amended Senior Certificate Is Important?

A Senior Certificate (Amended) is important because it is the qualification that gives you access to university. Obtaining a Senior Certificate (Amended) means the start of your career. You can use this qualification to study the course you want at university. Once you have completed the university course, you will have a better chance to find employment.

Is An Amended Senior Certificate Equivalent To Matric?

A Senior Certificate (Amended) is not equivalent to a Matric Certificate because it is a Matric Certificate. The only difference is that a Senior Certificate (Amended) is received by students who are 21 years or older through studying the Adult Matric course, while the National Senior Certificate is received in high school by students younger than 21.

How Many Subjects Do You Need To Pass Senior Certificate?

You require a minimum of six (6) subjects to study for the Senior Certificate (Amended). From the six subjects, you can pass five (5) subjects or more to complete the Senior Certificate (Amended). However, it is recommended that you pass all six subjects so that it helps you be a desirable candidate when you apply to university.

What Is The Senior Certificate Examination?

The Senior Certificate (Amended) examination is for students 21 years and older who are studying the Adult Matric course. The Senior Certificate (Amended) examination is written in May/June. To register for this exam, you can apply through the Department of Basic Education website or visit the Educational offices and register in person.

The Senior Certificate (Amended) examination is made up of 100% of your marks. This means that there are no other assessments counted for this qualification. The marks you receive in your examination are your final mark. This gives you more time to study for your examination.

What Can I Do With The Amended Senior Certificate?

You can use your  Senior Certificate (Amended) to do the following: 

  • Find Employment 
  • Study Further

Find Employment

You can use the Senior Certificate (Amended) to find entry-level employment. You will be a desirable candidate applying for this qualification because employers value Matric Qualifications. They value these qualifications because they say this about you: 

  • You are a fast learner 
  • You have the relevant knowledge 
  • You have skills 
  • You are dedicated to work

You can use the Senior Certificate (Amended) to further your studies with Matric College. You can apply for our courses:

These courses are accredited by the ICB and the QCTO. You will be able to gain a recognised qualification that you can use to further your studies or find employment globally. 

These courses are not accredited, however, they have many advantages: 

  • You can study with or without a Matric Qualification 
  • You gain a specific skill-set 
  • You are prepared for work 
  • There are no exams (less academic pressure) 
  • Your current skills are advanced 

OR 

You can further your studies at a university or a college. Keep in mind that your acceptance depends on whether you meet both the course and university requirements.

Do Universities Accept Amended Senior Certificates?

Yes, universities accept the Senior Certificates (Amended). This is because the Senior Certificate (Amended) is a Matric Certificate. However, universities have requirements that you must meet to be accepted. Do research on the university where you would like to study and work on meeting their requirements.

What Can I Study With A Senior Certificate?

You can use the Senior Certificates (Amended) to study for any course that you want at university. This can be a: 

  • Degree course 
  • Diploma course 
  • Higher Certificate course

However, you must keep in mind that you must first meet the requirements of the course to qualify to study. At Matric College, we offer different courses that you can study, these are:

You gain an improved Senior Certificate (Amended) from this course.
