Recognition of prior learning with ICB does exist. This is the process of recognising subjects, credits, and experiences from previous learning. This means that you will get a full exemption, or conditional exemption, or your exemption will not be granted. Recognition of Prior Learning is also referred to as:

How Do I Get Recognition Of Prior Learning At ICB?
You can get Recognition of Prior Learning at ICB if you meet the following entry requirements:
- If you have work experience in a field of study that ICB offers:
- Previous knowledge of a particular field of study
- An ICB Qualification
- A qualification similar to ICB or that has the same standards and is recognised on the National Qualifications Framework (NQF) system
- A part qualification (For example, if you have complete one ICB Course and not the entire programme or if you have completed some subjects in a particular course)
NOTE:
Recognition of Prior Learning is not guaranteed, and ICB ultimately makes the final decision.

How Do I Register For RPL?
To register for RPL with ICB, you must already have completed a full qualification or part-qualification that is on the NQF system. If your NQF-registered qualification or qualifications are older than 5 years, you must provide proof of more recent work experience.
Here are the steps that you need to take to register for RPL:
Step 1: Read through the guideline of the RPL
Step 2: Submit your proof of payment with the ICB Student Detail form to this fax number: 0864 284 926 or to this email address: [email protected]
Step 3: Create a detailed CV, add your ID Book, and a letter from your Manager with your work experience, and submit it with the above-mentioned information
Step 4: Also add all of your NQF – registered qualifications with the proof of accreditation of your training provider and the SAQA ID number related to your qualifications or part-qualifications. For example, the Office Administration: ICB Higher Certificate Qualifications SAQA ID number is (23619).
After submitting your application, ICB will review your application and might offer you credits which will exempt you from certain subjects. Other times, ICB will ask you to complete a Portfolio of Evidence (PoE).
What Types Of Exemption Results Apply To Matric College?
The most common types of exemptions are:
- Full Exemption
- Conditional Exemption
- Exemption Not Granted
Full Exemption
This is when ICB recognises your subjects and grants you credit for it. For example, if you have completed the subject Bookkeeping to Trial Balance before, you will not have to complete the subject again.
Conditional Exemption
This means you will not get the full exemption because you need to submit more evidence of your RPL. At ICB, this generally means that you will have to submit a Portfolio of Evidence or write an exam to prove that you have the skills and knowledge required.
Exemption Not Granted
This means that ICB does not accept your previous qualifications and that you will have to complete the subjects again.

This is when a college or university transfers credits earned from courses or qualifications to their college or university. Keep in mind that this seldom occurs in South Africa and that you should always do your research before applying.
Is RPL Credit Transferable?
Yes, RPL Credit is transferable depending on the university or college. Most of the time, universities, or colleges only accept credits from their own institutions. For example, going from Business Management to Financial Accounting.
What Does Competent By Credit Transfer Mean?
This means that the credits that you have earned from a part-qualification or full qualification allow you to study or be exempted from certain subjects. A great example of this is the Post Graduate Certificate in Education Certificate (PGCE).
This is a certificate that students can complete to gain a teaching Qualification. This is a (1) one year course that is offered to students that have already completed a Bachelor’s Degree Course with subjects that can be completed at school level.
