Who Qualifies For Matric Second Chance Programme?
You qualify for the Matric Second Chance Programme if:
- You are younger than 21 years old
- If you have failed two or more subjects
- If you have a valid reason for failing
How Does Matric Second Chance Work?
Students who have failed Matric generally apply for the second chance programme, but students that want to improve their marks can also apply. You need to register with:
- Your High School
- The Department of Basic Education
- The Department of Provincial Education
What Can I Do If I Failed My Matric?
If you want to get your Matric Certificate, you can apply for the following programmes:
If you want to further your studies without Matric, you can complete these courses at Matric College:
What Happens If You Fail Matric Twice?
If you fail Matric twice, you can:
- Repeat Matric
- Complete the Supplementary Exam
- Complete our Matric Rewrite Course
- Complete our Matric Upgrade Course
You will not receive your Matric Certificate automatically if you have failed Matric for a second time. The educational system in South Africa does allow students to progress to the next grade if they have failed for a second time, but this is only limited from Grade R to Grade 11.
This means that students have to repeat, rewrite or upgrade their Matric to get their Matric Certificate. Do not feel demotivated to complete your Matric.
Can You Do Matric Twice?
Yes, you can do your Matric twice. In fact, you can do your Matric as many times as you like. If you want to continue your Matric in High School, you have to be younger than 21. Once you are older than 21 years old, you cannot go to school, but you can complete our Matric Upgrade Course.
Here are the entry requirements for our Matric Upgrade Course:
- You must have written the final Matric exam (It does not matter what your results are)
- You must be comfortable studying through distance learning
- Understand, read and write English

You can rewrite your Matric at Matric College as many times as you like. There is no limit to the number of times you can rewrite your Matric.

Is Rewriting Matric A Good Idea?
Yes, rewriting Matric is a good idea. Here is why you should upgrade your Matric:
- You can improve your Matric marks
- You can improve your marks in order to go from failing to passing your Matric
- You can change your Matric subjects to ones that:
- You are interested in
- That is easier to complete
- That will gain you entry to university
- You can add subjects to your Matric Certificate

Can I Rewrite My Matric After 7 Years?
Yes, you can rewrite your Matric after (7) seven years at Matric College. These are the two courses that we offer:
You can also become a successful entrepreneur or have a successful career with or without Matric.
Can You Do Matric In 3 Months?
Yes, you can do Matric in (3) three months if you have already completed Matric but failed or need to improve your marks. If you apply at the beginning of the year, you can write in May or June. Here are the (2) two courses that we offer:
Can I Write My Matric Online?
No, you cannot write your Matric online. You have to be physically present to write the final Matric exam. You can however, study an Adult Matric Course online, at Matric College. Here is what you need to qualify for our Adult Matric Course:
- Be 21 or older. Most of our students apply when they are only 19 years old, but write the final exam when they are 21.
- Have a Grade 9 Certificate or
- ABET Level 4 Certificate
- Understand, read and write English or Afrikaans
- Study through distance learning
Can You Go To College If You Failed Matric?
Yes, you can go to college if you failed Matric. You can complete most of our courses without Matric. Here is a list of the courses you can study without Matric:

No, failing Matric is not the end of the world. Many people have become successful with and without Matric. Some of the most well-known successful people are:
- Charlize Theron – Actress and entrepreneur
Charlize Theron is a successful entrepreneur and actress, and she has not completed her Matric. But with drive and determination, she is well-known for her acting worldwide.
- Sechaba Mokoena – IT Specialist and entrepreneur
Sechaba Mokoena does IT work during the day and has his own floral shop that sells lifelong flowers. He failed matric twice, but through determination, he rewrote his Matric until he passed.
