Studying Accounting

Matric College, in partnership with the Institute of Certified Bookkeepers, offers 1 accounting programme:

With an accounting qualification, you will hardly struggle to find a job. There are many reasons why you should choose accounting whilst furthering your education:

  • It is a scarce skill
  • You can work for yourself
  • International opportunities
  • Good career development

Scarce Skill

A scarce or critical skill is a skill set or qualification that is in demand. This is mostly because very few people have them and many companies need them.

Accounting is one of these scarce skills which means that you will not struggle to find a job with an accounting qualification.  You can also expect to be paid a good salary with an accounting qualification.

Work for Yourself

As an accountant, you can either choose to work for a company or you can freelance.  If you freelance and become your own boss, you can decide on your own clients, schedule and working hours.

Not only will an accounting qualification give you the ability to work for yourself, but it will also help teach you about business and what to do when starting one.

International Opportunities

Accounting principles are international and do not change according to the country that you are in.  This means that you will have international opportunities because of your accounting qualification.

You may need a few extra classes to learn about the financial laws of a different country but the overall accounting principles will remain the same.

Career Development

With accounting, you will start in a junior role.  From there, you can build your skill set, your traits and your relationships to start leading into bigger roles.  From there you could even branch into positions of management or CEO.

With accounting, you can always expect to be moving up in your career. That means that there will hardly ever be a dull moment.
