Which Subjects Are Required For Legal Secretary?
You do not need to have any specific subjects to study the NATED Legal Secretary courses at Matric College. Our courses will equip you with the foundational knowledge you need to be able to understand the NATED Legal Secretary courses. You are only required to have a Matric Certificate (Amended Senior Certificate or National Senior Certificate) to apply. This can be in any Matric pass level:
Can I Study Legal Secretary Without Matric?
No, you cannot study the NATED Legal Secretary course without a Matric Certificate. However, you can study the following course to obtain a Matric Certificate:
This course will award you with a Matric Certificate once you have completed it. You can use the Matric Certificate to apply for our NATED Legal Secretary courses.
Adult Matric Requirements
- You must have at least a Grade 9 or Grade 9 Equivalent Qualification,
- i.e.: Adult Basic Education and Training (ABET) Level 4
- You have an incomplete Matric
- You must be able to read, write and understand English or Afrikaans
- You must be 21 years or older to write the exams
- You may sign up for the Adult Matric at the age of 19 years old, but you will only be able to write the Adult Matric exam once you are over 21

How Long Is A Legal Secretary Course?
The NATED Legal Secretary course takes 18 to 36 months to complete.

How Does NATED Work?
The NATED Legal Secretary courses work in this way:
NATED courses are offered at Matric College through a partnership with Bellview Institute of Distance Learning.
The NATED Legal Secretary course is made up of practical and theoretical knowledge components. There are three Certificates courses that focus on the theory and one Diploma course that focuses on practicals. These are the three Certificate courses:
There are three (3) open book assignments and one (1) final examination for each subject for each Certificate course. You must earn 50% or higher marks to pass the assignments, and 50% or higher to pass the exams. Once you have completed the Three NATED Legal Secretary Certificate courses, you can move to the last which is the NATED Legal Secretary N6 National Diploma.
The NATED Legal Secretary N6 National Diploma is not a course. This is a qualification that you receive if you complete 18 months of work experience. There are no assessments for this qualification. You can complete the work experience in the following way:
- Register on the iWIL website
- The iWIL website is designed by the Department of Higher Education and Training
- The purpose of the website is to help students find volunteer work where they can gain experience
- Once you have registered, you will receive a job in a company at which you will complete your work experience
- We will send you a logbook that you must complete throughout your work experience
- You do not have to apply for a logbook, we automatically send you one
- The manager of the business overseeing your work experience must sign off the logbook
- Send the logbook back to us, and we will send it to the Department of Higher Education and Training (DHET) for approval
Once the DHET has approved your logbook, they will send you your Legal Secretary NATED N6 National Diploma
What Should I Do After Legal Secretary?
Once you have completed the NATED Legal Secretary course, you can look for employment. You will have higher chances of finding employment because of the following:
- You have three NATED Legal Secretary Certificate Qualifications
- You have a NATED Legal Secretary N6 National Diploma
- The courses are accredited by the DHET and the QCTO
- The courses are recognised in South Africa
- The courses are registered with SAQA
- You are equipped with skills and knowledge
