The Northern Cape’s Matric pass rate for 2022 has improved greatly since 2020. There was an increase of 5.4%, as the pass rate went up from 66.7% to 76.4% in just two years.

The Minister of Basic Education, and the Premier of the the Northern Cape, have both applauded the province’s Matriculants for their hard work and determination to improve each year. This is to ensure that the province’s Matric pass rate is no longer below the national average.

Which School Has The Best Matric Results?

There are different factors that are taken into consideration before it is called “the best”. These factors include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Overall Matric class result (calculated as a percentage)
  • The number of distinctions per Matriculant
  • Each Matriculant’s Matric Pass Level (Bachelor’s Degree Pass, Diploma Pass, Higher Certificate Pass, and National Senior Certificate Pass)

The higher the overall percentage, number of distinctions per Matriculant, and the higher the number of Matriculats that pass with a Bachelor’s Degree Pass, the higher the school will rank on a provincial and national level.

How Much Do I Need To Pass Matric?

To pass Matric you need to meet the minimum requirements. The minimum requirements will look like this:

  • 40% for your Home Language
  • 40% for two other High Credit subjects
  • 30% for the other subjects
  • You may fail a minimum of one (1) subject. This should however not be your Home Language. 

Do I Need To Pass Maths To Pass Matric?

No, you do not need to pass Maths to pass Matric. Keep in mind that if you choose to further your studies at a university, you must meet specific requirements and have specific percentages for specific subjects. This includes getting a certain percentage for Maths.

Is 75% A Distinction In Matric?

No, 75% is not a distinction in Matric. 80% is a distinction in Matric. At university level, 75% is a distinction. At Matric College, we give students the best exam resources to help them get the distinctions they deserve.

How Can I Become A Top Achiever In Matric?

To become a top achiever in Matric you need to be extremely passionate about completing your schooling, and you need to be highly competitive with yourself. 

Here are a few tips to become a top achiever in Matric:

Tip 1: Study on a regular basis. Between (3) three to (6) six hours a week.

Tip 2: Always complete your classwork. This includes homework, assignments, oral presentations, and class tests.

Tip 3: Ask questions in class. This allows you to understand concepts you do not understand.

Tip 4: Set up a study schedule according to where you need the most work. This allows you to discover which subjects you need to work on more. 

Tip 5: Decide on a study method you feel comfortable with. This means that you can study by yourself or have group study sessions. Finding the right study method will help you be the best.

Is It True That Matric Results Will Not Be Published In Newspapers Anymore?

No, it is not true that Matric results will not be published in newspapers. All Matric results will be published in selected newspapers. 

It was discussed that some students did not want their details to appear in the newspaper. On the 18th of January 2022 a court ruling established that results will be published in newspapers and social media platforms  

The POPI (Protection of Personal Information) Act will protect all of your personal information, which means that your exam number will be the only thing that appears in the newspaper.

How Can I Fix My Matric Results?

You can fix your Matric results by applying for our Matric Upgrade Course. This course allows you to:

  • Improve your subjects
  • Add subjects
  • Change subjects

To apply for this course, you need to have one of the following documents:

  • Failed Matric Certificate
  • Passed Matric Certificate (that needs improvement)
  • Incomplete Matric Certificate (If you missed one or more exams)
  • Matric Statement of results

You also need to meet these requirements:

  • Be 21 or older
  • Understand, read and write English
  • Be comfortable with distance learning

Could My Exam Paper Have Been Marked Wrong?

If you believe that you have tried your best and that your exam paper was marked incorrectly, then you can have your paper:

  • Re-checked
  • Re-marked 
  • Viewed

Re-Checked

Getting your Matric paper re-checked, means that an examiner will check whether your exam papers have been checked correctly. This means that the examiner will count every mark allocated and ensure that it has been calculated correctly.

Re-checking your paper costs: R27.00

Viewed

This process is when you get to see physically see your exam paper. You may only view your paper once you have re-checked and re-marked your paper.

Viewing your paper costs: R212.00

We advise you to complete these processes only if you feel that your paper was marked incorrectly. Keep in mind that this may not have a significant impact on your grades.
