You can enrol for Adult Matric if you are 21 years or older, you have a grade 9 (standard 7, or equivalent) report and you are able to study via distance learning.

You can enrol for a Matric Rewrite or Matric Upgrade if you have an incomplete Matric result or you have your final Matric results, and you are able to study via distance learning.

With distance learning, students can study from the comfort of their homes or any location, without attending physical classes. We provide all necessary study materials and academic support to enable our students to succeed.

Yes, distance learning at Matric College allows you to study at your own pace and schedule, providing flexibility to accommodate your lifestyle.

Yes, you will get textbooks for most, if not all, of your courses. If you are completing the following courses, you will receive textbooks and study guides:

• Matric Courses
• NATED Courses
• ICB Courses

For our Short Courses, you will only receive some textbooks depending on the type of Short Course you complete. Most of our short courses only consist of study guides and relevant course information.

At Matric College, we understand that financial circumstances are not the same for all our students. That is why we came up with payments plans that are customised to suit every student’s needs. The following are the four (4) payment plans that we have in place to serve you better:

No, you do not need a computer to study at Matric College. If you have a smartphone that has an email address then you can download a scanning application on your phone, write out or type your assignments, scan and send it through email. 

Alternatively, you can post your study material to us. 

Does this mean that you must have internet access or data? Yes, you must have data on your phone to send the assignment through email, but this will be the only time that you need data.

Yes, Matric College is a distance learning institution, and therefore you will be able to complete all your studies using online methods such as:

• Telegram
• Online Study Groups

Although you can complete all the studies via online methods, you cannot write your actual exams online. You have to be physically present at an examination centre, designated by the Department of Basic Education and Training, close to where you live. Once you complete & pass your Matric exams, you will achieve a Matric Certificate. 

Yes, NQF Level 4 is the same as a Matric, as shown above by the NQF Levels table. On the National Qualifications Framework, a Matric Certificate has 130 credits. Here are the different NQF Levels and the qualifications you can complete on the NQF Level 4.

The Second Chance Matric Programme allows students to rewrite their Matric. This applies to students who have recently completed and failed a few subjects. This means that students have to be younger than 21 years to apply for this programme. 

The Second Chance Matric Programme is also called:

• Matric Rewrite Course
• Matric Upgrade Course
• Supplementary Exam
• Second National Programme

The Matric Upgrade Course is for students who have already completed their Matric but have failed Matric, have an incomplete Matric Certificate or want to improve their Matric marks. This course is also for students who are 21 and older. It can take between 3 to 12 months to complete.

You can repeat your Matric at the following institutions:

1. At a High School if you are under the age of 21 years
2. At a distance learning College, such as Matric College, if you are 21 and older

To register for a Matric Rewrite Course, you have to look at the different Matric Rewrite programmes that are available. Registration for the Matric Rewrite/Matric Upgrade programme through Matric College differs from the Matric Rewrite/Supplementary exams administered directly by the Department of Basic Education.

Here is how you can register for each of these programmes:

Registration For The Matric Rewrite/Supplementary Exams Through The Department Of Basic Education – SAQA ID – 49647

• You can register for your Matric Rewrite in person, at any Department of Education district office, or online via their website.
• Registration at the Department of Basic Education usually opens between November and the end of February / January.
• Students usually write their exams in May/June or October / November
• The Department of Basic Education does not provide any books or tutor assistance,

• Your first step will be to register for the Matric Rewrite programme with Matric College. We will provide you with the necessary books and tutor assistance you require to be successful.
• The second step would be to register for the exams at the Department of Basic Education. This is done by yourself either online or in person.
• Registration at the Department of Basic Education usually opens between November and the end of January
• Students usually rewrite their exams in May/June

Study Without Matric courses are courses that you enrol for without a Matric Qualification. These are offered at Matric College. The courses are meant to equip you with skills and knowledge that help you become self-employed or find work.

These courses also have short durations, making them a great option for students who will need to work as well. 

A Matric Certificate allows you to:

• Apply for entry-level jobs
• Access to study opportunities
• Access to learnerships

Entry-level Jobs

The application requirements for entry-level jobs almost always require you to have Matric. Entry-level jobs are employment opportunities that do not require any qualifications. However, having your Senior Certificate (Amended) is beneficial and a step in the right direction towards further study and more employment opportunities. 

Study Opportunities

Having a Senior Certificate (Amended) gives you the opportunity to study a Bachelors Degree, National Diploma or National Qualifications based on how well you pass your Matric. 

Universities and tertiary education institutions offer courses that have different entrance requirements and one of those requirements is a Matric Certificate. If you are not ready to study further with your Matric Certificate you can choose to do learnerships. 

Learnerships

Learnerships are skilled focus courses that specialise in teaching you in a specific field. They are work-based learning programmes that are managed by Sector Education and Training Authorities (SETA) that lead to a National Qualification Framework (NQF) registered qualification. Learnerships look great on a CV and you will be learning on the job. This will allow you to climb the corporate ladder.

Students across South Africa can register with us to study for the Senior Certificate (Amended) exams. This gives anyone aged 21 or older who did not complete Matric a second chance to earn this valuable qualification and open the door to new opportunities, such as:

• Studying further at a university, with the possibility of qualifying for a bursary

• Accessing better career opportunities that require a Matric certificate

• Enrolling in one of our Post-Matric courses for even more career paths, such as:

  • NATED courses

  • ICB courses

  • Short Courses

The Department of Basic Education (DBE) opens Adult Matric exam registrations from October/November until January each year. You can register online or in person by submitting the required supporting documents.

The Senior Certificate (Amended) exams take place during the May/June exam session.

Pursuing a Matric Upgrade is a popular option for students who are 21 and older, as it gives you a second chance to improve your marks or add new subjects to your Matric Certificate. This allows you to meet the entry requirements for the qualification you want to study at a university or college, should you decide to further your education.

Many students choose this pathway through our Matric Upgrade course, which is designed to help adult learners achieve the marks they need for better study opportunities, the possibility of qualifying for a bursary and improved career prospects.

The National Senior Certificate (NSC) is a South African qualification earned by successfully completing Grade 12. Learners in Grade 12, as well as those who meet certain requirements, can write the NSC exams during the annual October–December session, with an additional May/June session available for rewrites. The NSC opens the door to further studies, enhances employment opportunities, and can also be completed through distance learning.

The Second Chance Matric Programme allows learners to rewrite the NSC subjects they did not pass, giving them an opportunity to improve their marks. This programme supports students who want better results for further studies, career opportunities, or personal advancement. It offers a second opportunity to achieve the Matric outcomes they need for future success.
