Yes, you can check your Matric results with your ID number. When you use this method you should also add your exam number. Here is what you should do:

There must be a space between your ID number and exam number. Do not add the word “and”.

Ensure that your ID number and exam number are 13-digit numbers and that are indeed the correct numbers. If not, you will not receive your results.

Many students choose to get their Matric results online as it is a lot easier. This means that you do not have to physically collect your Matric statement of results. 

Keep in mind that some employers and universities want the physical copy of your Matric statement of results.

At Your High School

If you have just finished the Matric exam in High School, you can ask your Teachers when and what time you can collect your results at school. 

They will keep you updated if any sudden changes occur.  You will first receive your statement of Matric results and then later receive your Matric Certificate.

At Your Exam Centre

If you have written the Adult Matric final exam, you can get your results at the exam centre you wrote. To get more information on when they are available, contact the Department of Basic Education.

The Newspaper

Your Matric exam results will also be released in the newspaper. Each province has their own newspapers where they decide to publish the information.

What Does IEB Stand For?

IEB stands for  the “Independent Examinations Board”.

It is assessment body that provides examination services to clients and private schools. These Matric Certificates (like the NSC Certificates catered for by the Department of Basic Education) are also awarded by Umalusi.

How Can I Check If I Passed Matric?

You can check if you have passed Matric by looking at your marks. Here are the minimum requirements to pass Matric:

  • 40% for your Home Language
  • 40% for two other subjects
  • 30% for the rest of your subjects
  • You may fail one subject
  • Your average should be at least 33.3%

How Many Subjects Do I Need To Pass Matric?

To pass Matric you need to pass either (5) five or (6) six subjects. Please refer to the following table for more information:

What Happens If I Fail Two Subjects In Matric?

If you fail two (2) subjects in Matric and only received a National Senior Certificate Pass (the lowest Matric Pass Level), you will, unfortunately, fail Matric.

You are only allowed to fail (1) one subject in Matric. This should also not be your Home Language.

To get the best marks, you can complete our Matric Upgrade Course. You only need to meet the following requirements:

  • Be 21 or older
  • Have completed Matric before (failed, passed, incomplete)
  • Understand, read and write English
  • Study Matric through distance learning

Can I Combine My Matric Results Even If I Failed?

No, you cannot combine your Matric results if you have failed. This is because you only want to combine your Matric results once you have improved your marks. The Department of Basic Education will also only combine your results if they have been improved.

How Much Will It Cost To Combine My Matric Results In 2022?

To combine, your Matric results will cost R153. The price is valid from 01 April 2022 until 31 March 2023.

How Do I Get A Digital Copy Of My Matric Certificate?

You cannot get a digital copy of your Matric Certificate. You can however get a digital copy of your statement of Matric results. 

Keep in mind that this is a temporary document and that most employers and universities or colleges want proof of the hard copy version of your Matric Certificate.

To apply for the digital copy (Matric statement of results), you can contact the Department of Basic Education directly.

Here are some of your options if you are not happy with your Matric results:

  • Contact the DBE or your High School: Have them remark, recheck or view your exam paper or papers. Remember that these processes do not guarantee that you will pass. It will only check if there were any mistakes made on your paper.
  • Complete our Matric Upgrade Course: The Matric Upgrade Course allows you to choose other Matric subjects. To complete this course, you have to be 21 or older.
  • Apply for the supplementary exam: The supplementary exam allows you to rewrite your subjects, but you cannot change the subjects. To complete this course, you have to be 21 or younger.

You will complete class tests, orals, and assignments, and it will count towards 25% of your final mark,

Your final Matric exam will count 100% towards your final mark.

You do not attend any physical classes or scheduled online classes.

No, you cannot apply for NSFAS if you have failed Matric, and plan on getting admission to a university or college that requires Matric. 

You can however apply for an NCV (National Certificate (Vocational) Course and then gain funding, if you have failed Matric. NCV Courses allow students to study towards their Matric, you only need a Grade 9 Certificate to apply.

Yes, you can study without Matric. At Matric College, we offer the following courses:

  1. ICB Courses – Depending on the ICB Programme you choose, you can start with a Grade 10, 11 or a Matric Equivalent Certificate.
  2. Short Courses – All of our Short Courses are open-access courses, this means that you only need to read, write and understand English. You also need to be at least 16 years to complete any of our Short Courses.

You can verify your Umalusi Certificate by using the verification clients that Umalusi recommends. Keep in mind that Umalusi does not verify your Matric Certificate directly, they use verification clients.
