How To Register For The 2023 Matric Exam

How To Register For The Matric Exam In Person

Here are the steps to follow to register for the Matric exam in person:

  1. Certify a copy of your ID and a report of the highest grade you passed
  2. Go to your nearest education district office. Click here to find the nearest education distinct offices in your province.
  3. Request a Matric Exam application form
  4. Complete the application. Make sure to double-check if your information is correct.
  5. Submit your application with the correct documents.

Once your application has been processed and approved, you will get an SMS with your exam venue and a link to your Matric exam admission letter.

How Do I Register For The Matric Exam Online?

Here are the steps to follow to register for the Matric exam online:

  1. Register on the government’s e-services website. Make sure that all your cellphone number and email address are correct. It will be used to communicate exam-related information.
  2. Click on the Education (mortarboard/graduation hat) icon and then select the registration option
  3. You will be sent a One Time Pin (OTP) that you will use to access the registration form
  4. Fill in the form
  5. Upload certified copies of your ID and a report of the highest grade you passed or any other qualifications you have obtained. Only png, jpeg, jpg, gif, and PDF document types can be uploaded. Ensure that you upload your documents in the correct formats. 
  6. Submit your application
  7. Log out once you have submitted your application

Can You Write Matric Without An ID?

Yes, you can write a Matric exam without an ID book or ID card. This is, however, only possible if you are enrolled in a High School. Your birth certificate will be used by your High School to register you for the Matric Exam.

When registering for a Matric Rewrite, Matric Upgrade, or Adult Matric Exam, you will need to have an ID. 

If you do not have one, visit your nearest Home Affairs Office more than (3) three months before you intend on registering for the Matric Exam. This will ensure that you will receive your ID in time for the exam registration.

Is It Too Late To Register For The 2023 Matric Exam?

No, it is not too late to register for the 2023 Matric exam. Registration is now open. You can register for the May/June Matric exam from 01 October 2022 until 31 January 2023.

Can I Still Register For The October/November 2022 Exam?

No, you cannot register for the 2022 October/November Matric exam. The registration deadline has passed.

While this is the case, you can register for the next Matric exam sitting, which will be in May/June of 2023. On the bright side, you will have more time to study and prepare yourself for the exam to get the best marks possible.

How Much Does It Cost To Write The Matric Exam?

You do not pay to write the Matric exam. If you register to write the Matric Exam with the Department of Basic Education (DBE), you will not pay to write the exam.

Who Qualifies To Write The Matric Exam?

  • Have a Grade 9 Qualification (ABET Level 4) or higher
  • You must not have written a Matric exam in the past
