Kwazulu-Natal has kept their Matric results consistent with a rise in the pass rates each year, aside from the class of 2020. 

In 2020, the pass rate went down by 2%. This was due to the COVID-19 pandemic disrupting school attendance and learners’ abilities to write their final Matric exam.

The Matric class of 2022 had the biggest improvement of 6.2% from the previous year’s pass rate.

When Will Kwazulu-Natal’s Matric Results For 2022 Be Released?

On the 20th of January 2023, the 2022 Matric results for Kwazulu-Natal will be released to students.

The final Matric exams will end on the 7th of December 2022 and on the 19th of January 2023, Angie Motshekga, Minister of Basic Education, will announce the final Matric results.

Where Can I Physically Get My Matric Results?

You can get your Matric results at the following locations:

  • High School – If you recently wrote your Matric
  • Exam location – If you wrote the Adult Matric Course

What Time Will The Matric Results Be Released?

The exact time that the Matric results will be released has not been determined yet. Generally, the Matric results are released in the afternoon.

How Can I Get My Final Matric Exam Results In Kwazulu-Natal?

You can access your final Matric exam results in Kwazulu Natal by using the following methods:

  1. SMS
  2. Newspapers
  3. Online

SMS

Getting your Matric results is one of the most popular ways students choose to receive their Matric results. This method is:

  • Accurate
  • Easy
  • Quick

How Can I Get My Matric Results Via SMS?

Get your Matric results via SMS by following these (4) five steps:

  • Step 1: Open up a new SMS
  • Step 2: Enter your exam number (provided by your High School or the DBE)
  • Step 3: Send the SMS to the following number: 45856 (NB: the number may change) Go to the SABC website for updated information.
  • Step 4: As soon as the Matric results are out, you will get an SMS with your Matric results

NOTE:

  • Free SMS’s may not be used (The SMS will cost R3.00. This may change yearly)
  • Send the correct exam number, ALWAYS double check – If you send the wrong exam number, you will not receive the correct results.

How Do I Find My Exam Number?

You are able to access your exam number from:

  1. Your High School
  2. The Department of Basic Education

If you have the hard copy of your Matric Certificate, you will find your exam number above your Matric results, on the right hand. This is a (13) digit number, it will also indicate on your Matric Certificate that it is your exam number.

Can I Check My Matric Results With My ID Number?

Yes, your Matric results can be checked with your ID number, but you also need your exam number. Here are the (4) steps you can follow:
  • Step 1: Go to your messages and open a new SMS
  • Step 2: Type your ID number and exam number
  • Step 3: Send your details to the following number: 35658
  • Step 4: Wait for your Matric results to be sent to you once they are available
NOTE:
  • There should be a space between your ID number and exam number
  • Both sets of numbers should be 13 digits
  • Free SMS’s cannot be used for this process (SMS’s cost R3.00 and the cost may change). If you use a free SMS, it will not work.
  • Make sure that you send the correct sets of numbers -The wrong numbers, will mean that you will not receive your results.

Newspaper

You can access your Matric result by looking for it in the newspaper. The POPI or POPIA Act (Protection Of Personal Information Act) ensures that your personal information will be kept private. Only your exam number will appear.

Online

Using online methods also seems to be a popular method to getting your Matric results. This is because most things have moved only due to convenience and efficiency. 

How Can I Check My KZN Matric Results Online?

 

You can check your KZN (Kwazulu-Natal) Matric results online by taking the first step of going onto the Department of Basic Education website. These are the steps that follow:

  • Step 2: Below you will find a section that asks for your exam number. Enter your exam number.
  • Step 3: Click the search button next to your number
  • Step 4: Your exam results will appear

Exam Centre

For students that have written the Adult Matric at a designated exam location can go to the exam centre and request their results. 

High School

If you wrote your final Matric exam at your High School, they will inform you when to get your Matric results.

You will go to your High School, and they will provide you with a Matric statement of results, which you can use to apply for:

How Do I Know If I Have Matric?

If you have written the final Matric exam and got the minimum of the following marks, then you have obtained your Matric Qualification:

  • 40% for your Home Language
  • 40% for two other subjects
  • 30% for the rest of your subjects
  • Your average should be at least 33.3%

*Note: You may fail one subject, but it should not be your Home Language

Get your Matric the traditional way, which is through High School, or get your Matric through distance learning at Matric College.

How Many Subjects Do You Need To Pass Matric?

It always depends on the type of Matric Course you are completing. 

If you are completing our Adult Matric Course, you will choose (6) six subjects, but you only need to pass (5) five subjects. 

You only need (6) six subjects, as Life Orientation is not an option in the Adult Matric Course.

If you are completing High School, you will choose (7) subjects, but you only need to pass (6) subjects,

We always encourage you to pass every subject that you complete.

What Happens If You Fail Two Subjects In Matric?

If you fail (2) two Matric subjects in High School or in the Adult Matric Course, you fail. This is because you may only fail one subject that is not your Home Language.

If you have failed one or more subjects or want to complete one or more subject, you can complete our Matric Upgrade Course. 

How Do I Download My Matric Certificate?

You cannot download your Matric Certificate. The only way you can get your Matric Certificate is if you access it directly from the Department of Basic Education, Provincial Department of Education or if you get it from your High School.

If you want a temporary document (Matric statement of results) you can get it sent to your email address from the Department of Basic Education.

A reprint of your Matric Certificate costs R153.00 and the Matric statement of result will cost R55.00.

Can I Combine My Matric Results Even If I Failed?

No, you cannot combine your Matric results if you have failed Matric. The process of consolidating two (2) Matric Certificates should be done only if your marks have been improved. 

Contact the Department of Basic Education to combine your Matric results. It will cost R153.00 but may vary as time goes on, check the DBE’s website for the latest information.

You can get your second chance Matric results at the following locations:

  • The High School you wrote your second chance exam
  • The exam centre you wrote your second chance exam
  • The Department of Basic Education
  • The Provincial Department of Education

A “C” in Matric means that you have scored a mark between 60% and 69%. This is also referred to as code (4) four. When you calculate your APS Score, it counts as (4) four points.

You only need to pass (5) five subjects with an Amended Senior Certificate. This means that you are allowed to fail at least one Matric subject (not your Home Language). In total, you will write an exam for (6) six subjects.

Yes, you can rewrite Matric in November if you are doing the supplementary exam. If you are rewriting at Matric College, you can only rewrite the exam in May/June.

Yes, you can pass Matric if you fail Maths. You are allowed to fail at least (1) one subject in Matric. It can also be any Matric subject, as long as it is not your Home Language.

You can get your Grade 11 results from your High School.

Yes, you can do your Matric in (3) three months. This only applies if you are planning on rewriting your Matric. This means that you should register in January and then write the exam in May/June. 

To complete the full Adult Matric Course, you have to study for at least (12) months. This means that you will write (6) six subjects in the final Matric exam. You do, however, have these options:

  • Study for (24) months – Complete (3) three subjects per year for (2) two years
  • Study for (36) months – Complete (2) two subjects per year for (3) three years
