IEB Matric Results | Everything You Need To Know

The Independent Examinations Board (IEB) is an independent assessment agency in South Africa. The IEB offers examinations to different schools in South Africa. Most of these are private institutions.

The IEB results are received by students whose schools are registered with the IEB. These are schools that write exams set by the IEB. Students who write the IEB exams receive Matric results from the IEB. They can register their details on different platforms to receive their results. This includes the following:

What Time Do IEB Matric Results Come Out?

The IEB results will be released around midday on Thursday, 19 January 2023.

Matriculants will then be able to access their results on various online platforms, and newspapers, and get their results from their school.

Will Matric Results Be Published In Newspapers?

Yes, the IEB results will be published in newspapers. You can buy a newspaper as soon as the results are released at the beginning of the year. To finds out the date on which the results will be released, you can look at the IEB social media pages or website. 

How Can I Check My Grade 12 Result By SMS?

  • On your mobile device, go to the SMS menu
  • Enter your exam number and date of birth as follows: yyyy/mm/dd
  • Send the SMS to 35135 (Please note that the SMS code may change and that there is a R3 charge for sending the above SMS) 
  • Once your registration has been approved, you will receive a confirmation 
  • Matric results will be sent to you as soon as they are available

Can I Collect My IEB Results At School?

Yes, your Matric results will be available at the school where you wrote your final examination.

How Do I Get My Matric Results Online?

You can register to check your results on the IEB website as soon as they are available. Here is how you can do it: 

  • Register at the IEB website 
  • You will need to provide your exam number and date of birth
  • When you have registered your details, you will be able to view your results

To access your IEB May/June results, you can also go on the IEB website.

What Is The IEB Pass Mark?

The IEB pass mark is 50%. To pass the final examination set by the IEB, you must obtain at least 50%. This is a good mark as it can help you obtain the highest pass in Matric which is the Bachelor’s Degree Pass. 

How Can I Pass Grade 12?

Bachelor’s Degree Pass Level

  • A minimum of 40% in your home language 
  • A minimum of 50% in four subjects 
  • A minimum of 30% in two other subjects

Diploma Pass Level

  • A minimum of 40% in your home language 
  • A minimum of 40% in four subjects 
  • A minimum of 30% in two other subjects

Higher Certificate Pass Level

  • A minimum of 40% in your home language 
  • A minimum of 40% in two subjects 
  • A minimum of 30% in four other subjects

National Senior Certificate Pass Level

  • A minimum of 40% in your home language
  • A minimum of 30% in two other subjects
  • A minimum of 30% in three subjects
  • You can fail one subject

PLEASE NOTE:

You can only go to university if you have passed with a Bachelors’s Degree Pass. However, this also depends on whether you get accepted by the university or not. You can use your Matric results to study through Matric College. You can study to get a higher level qualification whether you passed or failed Matric. 

What Is Symbol C In Matric Results?

The symbol ‘C’ has the following meaning in your Matric results:

What Is A Distinction In IEB Matric?

To earn a distinction in IEB, you must obtain marks of 80% or higher.

This is an excellent mark that can increase your opportunity of being accepted into university.

How Many Subjects Do I Need To Pass Matric?

You need a minimum of seven (7) subjects to study Matric. To pass your IEB Matric, you will have to pass all seven subjects or at least six of them. This is because you are allowed to fail one subject and still pass your Matric. However, keep in mind that you can fail any subject except your Home Language. 

What Happens If I Fail Two Subjects In Matric?

If you fail two subjects in Matric, you will have to rewrite your final examination. To do this, you can apply for the Rewrite Matric Course offered at Matric College. We will provide you with the resources you need to prepare best for the final exam
