Date Published: October 7, 2020

Mathematics is a tricky subject that sometimes takes a lot of time to get your head around. Core mathematics is one of the most popular subjects in IEB, it’s only alternative being mathematics literacy.

Matric College has put together this cheat sheet to help all IEB Mathematics students prepare for their examinations.

Past Papers

Getting through maths is all about practice! The subject itself is all application, so the more you learn to apply the rules to random sums, the better you’ll get at it. But it does take a lot of work.

Take the time to practise your maths every day! The perfect way to do this is with past exam papers! That way you get used to how things are asked and marked.

Here is where you can find all the IEB mathematics past papers from 2015-2019.

Marking Guidelines

After practising, the next best thing you can do is to learn how your work will be marked. Markers use specific criteria when they’re assessing your examination paper.

If you start to understand how the marks are given, you’ll soon learn how exactly you should answer.

Tips and tricks for passing mathematics

  • Try more than one teacher: It’s always a good idea to get a different perspective when it comes to tricky subjects like maths. Try a tutor or even learn from different teachers on youtube!
  • Teach your friends: By teaching your friends maths, you’ll finally see what it is that you don’t fully understand and areas that you should spend more time on. Plus, they might lean a thing or two from you.
  • Do your homework: Homework is the best way to really get the work. Keeping up to date is so important! With maths, every section builds on the next. Make sure that you understand the current section before moving on.
  • Practise makes perfect: Again, the more that you practise, the better you get! So put a little practice into the everyday.
  • Believe you can and you will: Believe that you can get it done and that the first step. If you don’t believe in yourself, you won’t succeed.
