Marking Guidelines
Knowing your work will be the reason you pass but knowing how to answer the questions will be the reason you get a distinction.
Knowing your work is one thing but if you’re unable to answer the questions in the right way, you’ll lose marks. Try working through marking guidelines to know what is expected of you in the exams. If you practice answering the questions, you’re more likely to know how to answer them later.
It’ll also help you understand the work better and study in a way that will get you the marks!

Tips and Tricks for passing French SAL
Languages are all about the work that you put in. That’s why it’s so important to follow the right tips and tricks to be able to ace it!
Here are some tips to pass your IEB French SAL exams:
- Do something every day: With French, it’s important to do some of it every day. Set aside about an hour a day to work on your French to ensure you do well in your exam. Do your homework and make sure you fully understand it for the exam!
- Read: Reading is a great way to up your language skills! Start reading French books to understand verb conjugations, sentence structure and new words that you might find in the exams.
- Practise with your friends: Practising French with your friends is a great way to up your speaking french and your overall understanding. Make a tutor group after class or even voice note and text each other over a WhatsApp group! Teamwork makes the dream work!
- Try apps like Duolingo: Duolingo is a great way to harness your language skills in new ways. It’ll also give you a new perspective! Try it out and see how quickly it will improve your French!
- Do past papers: Doing past papers will help you familiarize yourself with the language. You won’t be as unprepared for comprehensions or new questions that you haven’t seen before. Remember that practising these papers will help you learn your work much quicker!
