We live in a world where a matric certificate alone can barely get you a job. Matric has always been seen as the bare minimum in the professional field. Having a matric certificate is important but, you might need a little more than matric to become successful.


The importance of a matric certificate in today's world

A survey by StatSA states that there are 6.7 million unemployed people in South Africa. Your level of education will most likely determine how much you will earn. Research conducted by Analytico indicates how much you could earn based on your level of education. A size of 717 364 individuals were used in this research. The study used people with different educational levels. The infographic below gives an idea your expected monthly salary according to your education level. 

Looking at the infographic above, it is clear that those without matric are most likely to be unemployed.

How does matric set you up for success?

Most job vacancies require a matric certificate. Without matric, opportunities can become scarce. Having a matric certificate opens doors to study a variety of fields at university, universities of technology and colleges. Matric gives learners the chance to study but, there are options to study without matric.

Is a matric certificate enough?

In the world we live in today, almost every single job requires a matric certificate. The competition is tough, there are millions of people who want to make it, and there aren’t enough jobs to go around.Employers choose the applicants that stand out. Make yourself employable by gaining skills, knowledge, and experience that will help towards your success.

Success doesn't have to depend on matric

If you do not have matric, don’t be demotivated. There are ways of making it in life without matric. Getting a decent job without matric might seem impossible. People spend many years of their lives stuck in one place because they do not have matric. 

But you further your studies without matric.

Studying without matric

There are colleges where you can study without matric. Depending on the career, you can work your way from an NQF level 2 certificate, all the way up to a doctorate level. An NQF 2 is the equivalent of grade 10.It is important to do your research on the career path you are interested in. Different career paths have different steps that need to be taken.

The job market is very competitive and unemployment rates are rising. Studying without matric should not make it harder for you to get a job. A few courses will definitely boost your CV but that is not enough for anyone, even people with matric need to do more than just have a few course names on their CV. 

No matter which path you take in your studies, you need to make sure that you are skilled within your field. Put in the extra work while you study, and find ways to gain the skills and experience that will make your job application stand out.
