Your Matric Qualification is very important in helping you build a successful career. This is a qualification that is valued in universities, colleges and workplaces. Your Matric Certificate can help you gain acceptance into different opportunities such as:
Furthering Your Education
You can use your Matric Certificate to further your studies at a college or university. To study at a college, you can do it at Matric College. We are a distance earning college that offers many courses.
Distance learning means that you as our student get to study from anywhere you want. This is beneficial because of the following:

NATED Courses
You can use a Matric Certificate to study our NATED Courses. These courses were made to provide you with the knowledge and skills that are required in the workplace. The DHET created these courses after a rise in the youth unemployment gap in South Africa.
By studying a NATED Courses, you gain a qualification that can help you get employed. These are the NATED Courses we offer:
ICB Courses
You can study any of our ICB Courses with a Matric Certificate. ICB Courses are designed to provide you with skills and knowledge that are good for business. This can be a business where you find employment or a business of your own.
Through ICB Courses, you gain skills that are in demand in the country. This will help you increase your chances of getting employed. These are the ICB Courses we offer:
Short Courses
You can use a Matric Certificate to study for our Short Courses. These courses equip you with skills that are good for employment and business. You will have a better chance of getting employed or opening a business with a Short Course Qualification. These are the Short Courses you can study:

Upgrade Matric Course
You can use your Matric Certificate to study the Upgrade Matric Course. This course will help you upgrade your Matric results. Upgraded marks are good because they can be accepted into university.
Upgrading your marks will also help you gain confidence in yourself. You will believe in dedication and hard work.
Bursary
You can use your Matric Certificate to apply for a bursary. You will have a better chance of getting accepted if you have good marks. If you do not have enough marks to gain a bursary, you can start by upgrading your marks through our Upgrade Matric Course.
You will be provided with the following to assist you as you study:
- There are tutors to assist you if you do not understand certain information
- There are past exam papers to use when you prepare for your exams
- We provide you with the textbooks you need in your studies
These are the requirements for the Upgrade Matric Course:
- Must have an incomplete Matric result or
- Your final Matric results
- Passed or failed matric results
- A Matric Certificate (Amended Senior Certificate or National Senior Certificate)
- A statement of results
Internship
You can use your Matric Certificate to find an internship. There are some internships that require you to only have a Matric Certificate without work experience. Here are some careers you can find with a Matric Certificate:
- Personal Assistant
- Receptionist
- Retail Associate
- Call Centre Agent
- Sales Representative
- Shop Assistant
What Happens If You Do Not Pass Matric?
If you do not pass Matric, you do not have to worry. There are many ways you can follow to gain better marks and pass your Matric. Here is a list of some things you can do if you failed Matric:
- Study Matric Again
- Remark
- Recheck
- View Paper
- Supplementary Exam
Study Matric Again
You can study Matric for the second time if you have failed. This can be done through the same High School you were in last time or a different school. Your advantage is greater than the others. You can use your experience to your advantage.
Study for everything in advance. If you know that there is a test coming up, use old papers to prepare for it. You will have a better chance to pass if you prepare for everything in time. Here are a few tips you can use to pass:
- Study daily
- Take notes in class
- Ask questions when you feel confused
- Use past exam papers to study for tests and exams
- Participate in all class assessments
Remark
You can apply for a remark and get your exam paper marked for the second time. The examiner will make sure that you receive accurate marks. All questions will be marked fairly. The remark costs R104 per paper. Please note that this fee can change.
Recheck
You can apply for a recheck and get your paper checked by an examiner. They will ensure that all questions have been marked correctly and that the mark allocations are accurate. The recheck costs R25 per paper. Prices may change at a later date.
View Paper
You can apply for the view paper to look through your exam paper. Please note that you can only do this after your paper has been rechecked or remarked. It costs R200 to view your paper. Take note that the fee may change.
Supplementary Exam
You can apply for the supplementary exam if you have failed Matric. This is where you will rewrite your final exam. You qualify to write this exam if you are over the age of 21. To prepare for the supplementary exam, you can use past exam papers.
Can You Apply At University If You Failed Matric?
No, you can not study at university if you failed Matric. You need a Matric Certificate with a Bachelor’s Degree to study at university. Please note that even if you have a Bachelor’s Degree pass, your acceptance into university is not automatic. You must meet the requirement set by the university to study.
Can You Fail Maths And Still Pass Matric?
Yes, you can pass Matric even if you have failed Maths. If you fail two or more subjects, you then fail Matric. However, it is best to pass all your subjects in Matric because you need good marks to study at university.
Can I Become A Teacher Without Matric?
No, you cannot become a Teacher without Matric. You need a Matric Certificate which is a Bachelor’s Degree in order to study for a degree in teaching at university. Your acceptance into the university will depend on whether you have met all the requirements.
If you have a passion for teaching children, and you do not have Matric, you can study for a Matric Course at Matric College. You can study for the Adult Matric Course. This course will award you with a Matric Certificate when you are done studying the course.
