Who Qualifies For The Matric Upgrade?
Students who have already completed Matric, whether they have failed or passed, qualify for the Matric Upgrade Course. Here are the entry requirements for this course:
- You must have already completed Matric
- Failed Matric Certificate/statement of results
- Passed Matric Certificate that needs improvement
- Understand, read and write English
- Study through distance learning
The final Matric exam may only be written at the end of the year which is in October/November.
Who Qualifies For The Supplementary Exam?
Students who have failed Matric or students that want to improve their marks qualify for the supplementary exam. This exam is commonly known as:

- If you have passed but want to improve your marks for admission to a university
- If you have failed 2 or more subjects
- Must have a sick note that states why you could not write the final Matric exam
What Is The Difference Between Matric Rewrite And Matric Upgrade?
The term “Matric Rewrite” can be used for the supplementary exam as well as the Matric Upgrade course because essentially you are rewriting your Matric. Here are the differences between Matric Rewrite and Matric Upgrade:

| Your year mark will count towards your final mark. This means it can bring your marks up. | Your final exam mark is your final mark. This means that if you do really well in the exams, your year mark will not affect it because there is no year mark. |
Can I Upgrade My Matric Results After 5 Years?
Yes, you can upgrade your Matric results after 5 years at Matric College. You can apply to upgrade your Matric results at Matric College. You should also already have completed Matric. You can apply with the following documents:
- A Failed Matric Certificate
- A Passed Matric Certificate that needs improvement
- A Matric statement of results
- An incomplete Matric Certificate
When Can I Register For Matric Upgrade?
If you are applying at Matric College, you can apply any time of the year. We are a distance learning college. This means you can work and study at the same time. You will not be attending any physical classes or any scheduled online classes.
Our registration is separate from the registration for the examination. You will apply for the exams with the Department of Basic Education. The exams are usually in May/June or October/November.

Is Upgrading Matric A Good Idea?
Yes, upgrading Matric is a good idea. Here is why you should consider upgrading your Matric:
- You can go from a Fail to a Pass
- You can go from a Diploma Matric Pass Level to a Bachelor’s Degree Matric Pass Level
- This means that you can gain entry into university. Here is what universities look at:
How Do You Pass Matric Rewrite?
You can pass your Matric Rewrite by being dedicated to your studies. The Matric Rewrite Course should not take a lot of your time, especially if you only have a few subjects that you need to complete. Here are some tips on how to pass your Matric Rewrite:
- Have a study schedule and inform someone about your study schedule. This way, if you are not studying, the other person can remind you to study.
- Go through past papers. This allows you to practice for the exam, and it is possible that the same questions may appear in the exam again.
- Study with other students if you are comfortable with this study technique. If you study with other students, you can get many opinions on the same topic, and you get the opportunity to explain certain concepts that you understand. In doing so, you study and remember the information.
- Ask questions. At Matric College, we have tutors that can assist if you need assistance.
What Happens If You Fail Your Matric Rewrite?
If you fail your Matric Rewrite, you can apply to rewrite again. Keep in mind that the supplementary exam is for students that are 21 and younger. This means that you can apply up until the age of 21.
After this, you should apply for our Matric Upgrade course. You can rewrite your Matric with our course as many times as you like. There is no limit.
How Do They Combine Matric Results?
You can combine your Matric by applying for it at the DBE. If you are completing the supplementary examination, it will be combined for you automatically. In both cases, only the best marks will reflect on your Matric Certificate.
NOTE:
If you have passed with a Bachelor’s Degree, the first time you have completed Matric then your Matric Certificates will not be combined. This is because a Bachelor’s Degree is the highest Matric Pass Level. This means that you will have two Matric Certificates. You have to apply for employment and tertiary institutions with both Matric Certificates.Where Can I Repeat My Matric?
You can repeat your Matric at your High School if you are under the age of 21, or you can repeat your Matric at a different High School.
Alternatively, you can apply for our Matric Upgrade course. You can apply for this course if you have already completed your Matric, regardless of the results.
Can I Apply At University While Upgrading My Matric?
Yes, you can apply to a university while upgrading your Matric.
Can You Apply To University With Grade 12 Marks?
Yes, some universities do expect you to apply with your Grade 12 marks. Whereas most universities expect you to apply with your Grade 11 June report and then with your final Grade 12 Certificate.
