Jan Badenhorst, CEO of Matric College talks about the Gauteng matric results over the last nine years and provides a prediction on the 2020 matric results

2016

Gauteng’s matric pass rate for 2016 was an improvement on their 85% pass rate in 2015. Coming in third place nationally, Gauteng scored a matric pass rate of 87% in 2016.

Despite coming in third place, Gauteng had the most bachelor passes in South Africa for their 2016 year.

2017

The Gauteng class of 2017 performed well above the national average.

In 2017, the national average sat at a 75.1%  matric pass rate whilst the Gauteng pass rate sat 11% higher.

2018

2018 was a great year for the Gauteng matric pass rate.

Up by 2 percent, Gauteng saw a record high pass rate of 89% in 2018. This was also a great year for South African matrics overall, with no provinces receiving less than 60% matric pass rates.

2019

Slipping into second place nationally, Gauteng saw a decrease in their matric pass rate by 2 percent. This put Gauteng 6% above the national average matric pass rate at 87%

It was however a great year for the districts of Gauteng. Taking 6 of the top spots, South Africa saw Gauteng’s notable districts paving the way for future matrics.
