The thought of writing your Matric final exam can be quite stressful. Students expect exams to be difficult, which then makes them feel stressed. However, you can maintain a stress-free exam routine. 

Below we have created a list of things you can do to help you have an exam season that is stress-free:

Plan Ahead

Planning for your exams will help you maintain a stress-free exam season. Develop a study plan before the final exam starts. You will find it easy to study for your exams if you are already studying before they start. Make sure that your study plans allow you to study daily. 

Students who study daily have a better chance of gaining knowledge because they can cover many topics. Studying daily makes it easier for you to remember what you have learned the previous day. By revising the information you study daily, it becomes stored in your mind. You will be able to use this to answer your exam questions

Studying can be tiring. Create a study plan with breaks in between. Although you will be studying daily, you deserve to take a break. For example, if you study for six hours, you can take a 30-minute break every two hours of studying. Your mind will be rested when you go back to your studies. You will study with a clear and active mind, which will help you concentrate better.

Study Smart

Studying is a technique. You must have a technique that works for you. Students have different ways of understanding information. For example, there are students who learn best through visuals. They easily understand information through videos, pictures, graphs and charts.  

Find out what your learning style is and use it as you study. You will understand the information easily and studying will be more enjoyable. 

Studying smart also means that you use different ways of studying. Below is a list of things you can do to study smarter

  • Study daily for more than four hours 
  • Study to understand the information 
  • Use your class notes to study 
  • Join a study group and have discussions with other students 
  • Attend extra classes at school or from a personal tutor

Prepare For The Exam

Exams determine whether you will pass a class or not. This is why they can be stressful. However, you can make them stress-free by preparing for them. To pass your Matric final examination, you must prepare for it. However, preparations do not start when the exam season arrives. 

Prepare for your final exam from the first term of the year.  You can do this best by knowing what you must do to pass. Matric is made up of school-based assessments and a final examination. You must do well in your school-based assessments and your final exam to pass the class.  

The school-based assessments are out of 25% of the marks, while the final exam is out of 75% of the marks. The school-based assessment marks are there to add up to your final exam. These are the assessments you must complete to work on your 25% of marks: 

  • June exam 
  • Trial exam 
  • Class presentations 
  • Class tests 
  • Assignments

School-based assessments are completed during the course of the year. You can ask your class teacher to tell you what your SBA mark is. This will help you know how many marks you need to pass Matric. A good pass is 50% and above in all subjects

When you have completed these assessments, you can get ready to write your final exam. 75% of your marks are based on your final examination. To prepare for your Matric final examination. You can do this: 

  • You should study daily to ensure you cover everything you have learned
  • Use old exam papers to practise and see how exam questions are set 
  • Ask your Teacher to assist you if you find a difficult question in the exam paper 
  • Study with other students to gain more information 

Use your study notes and textbooks when studying

Get Enough Sleep

When preparing for your exam, you must make sure you get enough sleep. When your body and mind are rested, you will have enough energy to study the next day. Make sure you rest so that it helps you study better. Sleeping has the following benefits in your studies: 

  • You have better concentration 
  • It helps you develop a strong mind (good memory)
  • Provides you with energy 
  • Maintains a healthy system 
  • Reduces stress

Take Care Of Yourself

If you want to maintain a stress-free exam routine. You must take care of yourself. Taking care of yourself means that you look after your health. You need to be healthy in order to write your exams well. Below is a list of things you can do to keep yourself healthy: 

  • Include more green vegetables in your meals 
  • Drink at least 8 glasses of water daily 
  • Have a healthy study snack e.g. dried fruits 
  • Exercise at least once a week
