What Is Upgrading Matric Results?
Upgrading your Matric results means that you improve or change your final Matric subjects. You can upgrade your Matric results for the following reasons:
- You have failed Matric and need to improve your marks
- You have passed Matric but are not happy with your final Matric results
- You have passed Matric and you are happy with your final Matric results but cannot be accepted to a university due to your Matric Pass Level
- You have passed Matric and you are happy with your final Matric results, and you have been accepted into a university but not for the course offered because of the subject that you have. Refer to the table below as an example:

As indicated in the results above, the student has passed well but has not completed the required subject, which is Business Studies.
- You have passed Matric and you are happy with your final Matric results. You have also been accepted into a university for the course of your choice, but you would like to complete another course, but you want to add more subjects to your Matric Certificate.
How Can I Upgrade My Matric Results Online?
You can Upgrade your Matric Results online by registering with Matric College. All of our courses can be completed through distance learning. This means that you do not have to attend physical classes or even scheduled online classes. Work and study at the same time. Here are the entry requirements for our Matric Upgrade Course:
- You must have completed Matric. This can be a failed, incomplete or Matric Certificate that needs improvement. You can also apply with your statement of results.
- Understand, read and write English
- Study through distance learning. This can also be referred to as online learning.
The Matric Upgrade exam can only be written in October and November.
Is Upgrading Matric A Good Idea?
Yes, upgrading Matric is a good idea. Here is why you should upgrade your Matric:
- Universities can see that you are willing to change your marks
- You can improve your marks from a Fail to a Pass. You can also go from a National Senior Certificate Matric Pass Level to a Bachelor’s Degree Matric Pass Level to gain entry into a university.
- You can change your subjects to easier subjects. For example, from Mathematics to Mathematical Literacy.
You can add subjects to your Matric Certificate if you want to change career paths. For example, from Business to Marketing.
Can I Apply At University While Upgrading?
Yes, you can apply to a university while upgrading your Matric results. Here are some of the conditions:
- Some universities want proof that you are indeed upgrading your results
- Your previous results should still show that you have passed with a Bachelor’s Degree
- You have not failed the subject you would like to improve. For example, you were supposed to get 75% for Mathematics but instead, you received 65%.
Each university has its own entry requirements and separate entry requirements for its courses.
Can I Combine My Matric Results Online?
Yes, you can combine your Matric results online. Here are the steps you should take to combine your Matric results:
Step 1: Register for the Matric Rewrite
Step 2: Prepare for the Matric Rewrite
Step 3: Complete the Matric Rewrite (Write the final exam)
Step 4: Wait on the Matric Rewrite results
Step 5: Apply for the combination of results at the DBE if you are completing the Matric Upgrade Course. If you are completing the supplementary exam, your marks will automatically be combined and only the best marks will be on your Matric Certificate.
Step 6: Wait between 4-8 weeks for your combined Matric Results
If you have passed with a Bachelor’s Pass the first time, your results will not be combined but you will receive another Matric Certificate with the improved Matric results. Always add both certificates when you apply for a job or at a university or college.
Where Can I Supplement My Matric Results?

What Is The Difference Between Matric Rewrite And Upgrade?
Although the terms Matric Rewrite and Matric Upgrade are used interchangeably, they are two different courses. Here are some of the main differences between these two courses:

| You must have already completed Matric, it can be incomplete, failed or passed Matric results. | You have to be younger than 21 to apply. |
| You can change your subjects to easier ones. | You may only write the subjects you completed in the previous exam. |
| You study through distance learning, and we send you the study material required. | You study through your school or the Department of Basic Education. They will not send you any study material, you have to use the material you have received the year before. |
| You can register any time of the year. | You can only register in February and April. |
Can I Still Register To Rewrite My Matric?
Yes, you can register to Rewrite Matric any time of the year at Matric College. We are a distance learning college. This means you will not have any physical classes or scheduled online classes. We send you the study material through courier, and you study from home. This way, you can balance your family life with your studies.
If you want to write the supplementary exams, you have to register before February for the May and June exam sitting and before April for the November and December sitting.
Can You Do Matric In 3 Months?
Yes, you can do your Matric in 3 months if you are upgrading your Matric results. This is how it works:
Step 1: Apply just before the closing date. For example, as soon as you have received your final Matric results, apply for the Matric Rewrite or Matric Upgrade course. The application is usually open from the end of January to mid-February. This allows you to write the exam for May/June.
If you choose to complete our Matric Upgrade Course, you can only write the October and the November exam. This means you can apply with us and study three months before you write the final exam.
Step 2: Study for the final exam. This means that you can study for 2-4 months and prepare for the final exam.
Step 3: Write the exams. Write the final Matric exams again and pass successfully.
Step 4: Wait for your results. You have to wait for your final Matric results. Once you have received your results, you may decide if you want to rewrite again or if you are happy with the results.
Step 5: Combine your Matric result. If you are happy with your final Matric results, you may combine your old and new results. If you are completing the supplementary exams it will be done automatically, if you are completing the Matric Upgrade course, you need to apply for the combination. This means that only your best results will reflect on your Matric Certificate.
Can I Rewrite My Matric After 10 Years?
Yes, you can rewrite your Matric after 10 years at Matric College. You cannot apply for the supplementary exam because it is reserved for people who are younger than 21 years but you may apply for the Matric Upgrade course at Matric College. You may also rewrite your Matric as many times as you like.
