Adult Matric Exams Preparation Starting - Department of Education asking schools to make space

With the Adult Matric (National Senior Certificate) exams moved from May/June this year to November this year; schools are now being asked if they have space to accommodate the Adult Matric exams.

Merging the Adult Matric and School Matric Exams

Usually the Adult Matric (National Senior Certificate) exams are in May and June. This year, because of the lockdown, these exams were cancelled. And then they were merged with the normal school matric exams.

That means that this year the November Matric Exams will be the biggest ever. The Department of Education will have to accommodate the over 100 000 Adult Matric students as part of the School Matric exam in November.

Looking at the results from the May/June 2019 results, this means that in addition to the Adult Matric students, there can also be over 100 000 learners writing to improve their exams results from last year.

This makes for over 200 000 EXTRA learners that will have to be accommodated in the November matric exams.

Western Cape Department of Education asking schools if they have space

In a recent letter to school principals in the Western Cape, principals are asked to indicate if they have additional space for students to write exams. This can be halls, large dining halls or gymnasiums.

The Western Cape Department of Education has thus started preparing to accommodate these additional students in the November Exams. Schools has up to 24 July to indicate if they have additional space available.
