8 Tips to Help you Adjust After High School

You can adjust your life after high school by deciding what you want to do. This can either be a gap year, furthering your education or finding employment.

You have completed your Matric and starting to experience life outside High School. The feeling is exciting and a little scary. Below, we have compiled a list of things you can do to help you adjust to your life after High School. 

Go Out With Friends

Exercise 

You have completed High School and this is your chance to catch up with your loved ones. You can go out with your friends and have fun. This will be good for your mind and will help relieve all the tension you had as a student in High School.

After High School, your muscles are tired from travelling to class and extreme studying. You can regain your strength through exercise. When you exercise, you feel strong and energised. You can try exercises such as the following, to regain strength: 

  • Jogging 
  • Lunges
  • Push-ups
  • Side planks 
  • Burpees

Lean On Family

Life after Matric is one of the most important times of your life. Make sure you stick close to your family. Lean on them as you begin your new life. You need to have support whether you decide to take a gap year, work or further your education. Ask your family to support you during this time.

Take A Gap Year

After Matric, you can take a gap year. This means that you will take one year to rest from school. You will have time to spend with your friends and family. During this time, you can solidify your bond with your family. 

A gap year is good for your mind and body. You get time to sleep and refresh. Taking a gap year is also a good time to be productive without being in school. These are some things you can do in your gap year: 

Study At A College

NATED Courses are created by the Department of Higher Education and Training (DHET) which is a professional body that has been in the business of education for over 14 years. This professional body along with the Quality Council of Trades and Occupations  (QCTO) accredited NATED Courses. 

The DHET and the QCTO monitor NATED Courses to ensure that they provide relevant knowledge and skills to students. This way, you obtain an education at its best level. When you look for employment, it is easy to see that you have gained an education that is quality. This here increases your chances of getting employed.

ICB Courses

Institute of Certified Bookkeepers (ICB) Courses are focused on knowledge and skills that are in demand in South Africa. If your career goals include opening a business or working in an office space, these are the courses for you. ICB Courses prepare you for employment and entrepreneurship. 

ICB Courses are created by the Institute of Certified Bookkeepers. This is a professional body that has been working in education for over 91 years. They accredit ICB Courses with the help of the QCTO. Having an ICB Qualification means you have obtained a quality education with skills that make you in demand in the workplace.

Short Courses

Short Courses focus on different skills that are valuable in business and employment. When you have a range of different skills, you are a candidate that employers look for. If you want to become an employee or employer, you should study a Short Course. 

Short Courses are created by the college to provide you with different skillets. When you have more than one skill, employers are drawn to you because they know you have the following:

Study At A University

After high school, you can decide to study at university. You need a Matric Certificate which is a Bachelor’s Degree Pass to study. Some universities may enrol you into their universities, even if you have a Diploma Pass. To be safe, make sure you pass with a Bachelor’s Degree Pass. 

To obtain a Bachelor’s Degree Pass, you only need the following: 

  • A minimum of 40% in your home language 
  • A minimum of 50% in four subjects 
  • A minimum of 30% in two other subjects

Upgrade Your Matric

You can use your Matric Certificate after High School to study an Upgrade Matric Course. You may have passed your Matric, but wished you had received better marks. You can make this wish a reality. Enrol on our Upgrade Matric Course and improve your Matric results. 

Through the Upgrade Matric Course, you can also change a minimum of four subjects. This means that you are allowed to replace your old subjects. This is good if you had always wished to study a different set of subjects.
