Is Adult Matric The Same As Matric?

Yes, the Adult Matric Course is the same as a Traditional Matric. The only difference between the two is that you complete your Traditional Matric in High School when you are younger than 21 while the Adult Matric Course is completed at a college when you are 21 or older.

Can You Do Your Matric At A College?

  • Yes, you can do Matric at a college. You can study at Matric College by applying for our Adult Matric Course. This is a course for all adults who want to obtain their Matric. If you are 21 years or older, you can enrol. These are the requirements you must meet to qualify to study: 
  • You passed Grade 9 and have proof of your report OR
  • You completed a Grade 9 equivalent course (i.e. an ABET Certificate) that included two official language subjects
  • You are 21 or older when you write your exams
  • You can apply as early as the age of 19 and start studying
  • You can read, write and understand English or Afrikaans 
  • You are able to study via distance learning

Can I Pass Matric With 5 Subjects?

Yes, you can pass the Adult Matric Course with five (5) subjects. You need six (6) subjects to study for this course. You can pass any five subjects or all subjects and be awarded a Matric Qualification.

How Do I Pass Adult Matric?

You can pass your Adult Matric Course by passing your final examination. Your pass mark is based on your final exam marks. There are no tests and assignments that create any other marks. This gives you enough time to prepare for your final examination. 

You can pass your Adult Matric Course if you receive one of these Matric Pass Levels

Bachelors Degree Pass

  • 40% in your home language subject
  • 50% in four other High Credit subjects
  • 30% in one other subject

Diploma Pass

  • 40% in your home language subject
  • 40% in four other High Credit subjects
  • 30% in one other subject

Higher Certificate Pass

  • 40% in your home language subject
  • 40% in two other subjects
  • 30% in three other subjects

Senior Certificate (Amended) (SC(A)) Pass

  • 40% in your home language subject
  • 40% in two other subjects
  • 30% of the remaining subjects 
  • Fail one subject by a maximum of 20%

Why Should You Aim To Achieve A Bachelor's Degree Pass?

You should aim to receive a Bachelor’s Degree Pass because this is the only pass that can get you to university. You can only get accepted into a limited number of universities and courses with a Diploma Pass

Please note that if you pass with a Bachelor’s Degree Pass, you will still have to meet other requirements set by the university to study. You may or may not be accepted depending on the marks you have received. 

If you do not qualify to study at university, you can study at Matric College for the Upgrade Matric Course. Through this course, you will be able to improve your Matric marks. Good marks will help you raise your chances of getting into university.
