2020 Matric results release date
Date Published: September 17, 2020
For the first time, the release of the matric results has been pushed into February 2021. This does not come as a surprise with all the academic turmoil caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.
The Department of Education has ensured that this later release date will not have an effect on tertiary applications.
The new release date
Usually set to be released in January, the matric results of 2020 will have a different fate. The matric results for the class of 2020 are set to be released on the 23rd of February 2021.
This is more than a month passed the usual release date. Usually, the matric results are released by the 5th or 6th of January
The new curriculum
It is not only the results release date that has been affected by the pandemic. The school curriculums have also been ‘trimmed’ by the Department of Basic Education. This comes as a recovery initiative to help save the 2020 academic year.
Despite the cut in the curriculum, matric exam papers will NOT mirror this cut. Matric learners will still be expected to write on their entire curriculum, not the trimmed one.

The new examination dates
The exam period for public schools has been pushed by the Department of Basic Education. The combined June and November examinations will now take place from the 5th of November until the 15th of December.
The Department of Basic Education has made this change to assist both students and teachers in completing their curriculum in time for the exams. The nation wide lockdown caused a huge loss of academic time, leaving students and teachers unable to complete their work load.
