To pass your Matric, you need at least 50% marks in each subject. This will help you obtain the highest pass level in Matric which is a Bachelor’s Degree Pass. If you have this Matric Pass Level, your chances to study at university will be high. 

However, your acceptance will depend on the course you apply for and whether you meet the requirements for that particular course. 

Study Smart 

To study smart for the exam, you can use past exam papers and memorandums. This helps you get an idea of how the exam will be set. It also helps you see how prepared you are to write.

It is also possible that some of the questions you find in past exam papers may appear in your exam. Some examiners like to repeat certain questions. If you are prepared, you will be able to answer this and pass

Engage With Others 

Studying with other students is a good thing. It not only motivates you to study harder, but it gives you a chance to learn from others. You can ask them to assist you with subject topics that you find challenging. You may learn a new formula that can help you pass the exam

Ask Questions

Your Teachers are available to you. Do not hesitate to ask them for assistance when you need it. Ask questions in order to get clarity on the subject topics you do not fully understand. This will help you in the exam. You will be able to answer questions well.

  • Watch one movie after writing every subject to relax your mind 
  • Have a study snack e.g. popcorn 

What Are The Maximum Hours To Study?

The maximum hours to study are six to eight hours. If you can study for more hours, you should do it. The more you study, the more knowledge you obtain. This helps you easily write your exams because you know how to answer different questions. 

How Can I Pass Matric?

You can pass Matric if you get one of the Matric Pass Levels listed below: 

Bachelor’s Degree Pass 

Diploma Pass 

Higher Certificate Pass 

National Senior Certificate Pass 

Highest Pass 

Second-Highest Pass 

Third-Highest Pass 

Fourth-Highest Pass


  • A minimum of 40% in your home language 
  • A minimum of 50% in four subjects 
  • A minimum of 30% in two other subjects 

  • A minimum of 40% in your home language 
  • A minimum of 40% in four subjects 
  • A minimum of 30% in two other subjects 

  • A minimum of 40% in your home language

If you earn a Bachelor’s Degree Pass, you will have a better chance of studying at university. However, your acceptance will depend on whether you meet the university and course requirements.

What Happens If I Fail An Exam?

If you have failed a Matric exam, you still have a chance to get your Matric. It is important to note that you fail Matric if you fail two subjects or fail your Home Language. However, if you failed one subject that is not your Home Language, you pass
